Cult?

Rogue Space Monkies

85% of Americans have/will either participated in or knows someone who has/will participate in a cult. And it is all one cult. What is this cult? The American public secondary school system. Yes, public high school. Before high school, people are not really aware of themselves as individuals, so they do not care about the classes the government forces them to take or the times they are forced to be places. But once they grow to high school age, they gain that self-awareness.

Now they begin to divide into 2 basic subgroups; the ones who continue to endure the system of oppression set up by the government, and those who don't.
Those who content themselves to government meddling start to lose part of themselves, They become more and more just like everybody else. Drones. Blank slates for the colleges of the country to mold into the capitalistic space monkeys that fill the job corporations need in order to keep the rich rich. They work 8 hours a day to get money so they can buy stuff then don’t need, thereby feeding that capitalist beast and furthering their own insignificance on the global stage. They work, they retire, they die, nothing changes.

Now, those select few who choose not to follow the crowd, the sheep who dodge the wolf, who become who they truly are, they are viewed as deviants. Their rewards for personality and self awareness are failing grade, fines, suspension, expelment. The great minds that figured out the system and they are squashed between the cracks when they should be held on a pedestal because they chose to stand apart from the crowd; they chose to be who they want, not who society tells them they should be. So what happens to these people, the great thinkers and doers of the generation? They keep falling farther and farther down the crack; never graduate, kicked out of the house, minimum wage job, drugs, violence, prison, take your pick, all as likely as the others. And they continue to fall until they realize the only way to thrive is to conform. To become another cog in the money making machine that we call capitalism.

I give you America, ladies and gentlemen; land of the free; land of opportunity.
