Kids in the States are disclosing their homosexuality with unprecedented regularitynd they are doing so much younger. The average gay person now comes out just before or after graduating high school, according to The New Gay Teenager, a book Harvard University Press published earlier this year. The book quotes a Penn State study of 350 young people from 59 gay groups that found that the mean age at which lesbians first have sexual contact with other girls is 16; it just 14 for gay boys. In 1997 there were approximately 100 gay-straight alliances (gsas)lubs for gay and gay-friendly kidsn U.S. high school campuses. Today there are at least 3,000 gsasearly 1 in 10 high schools has oneccording to the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (glsen, say listen?, which registers and advises gsas. In the 2004-05 academic year, gsas were established at U.S. schools at the rate of three per day.

Isnt this a good thing, doesnt it show that we are progressing in sexual awareness and openness? I for one am proud that people can now express who they are openly. Hoozaa for America!
This just goes to show that being gay is now beginning to become accepted, people don't have the same fear due to lack of knowledge that they used to.
Although... 14 is a little young, 16 is okay, but 14? just... that seems a little pre-pubesent for me. I dunno... its just... whatever, do what ya want.

Here in the land of milk and honey that is Europe we are much more free. In fact just last night I had hot slippery gay sex with best male friend and then we joined a fivesome with three lesbians.
We took photos and posted them up at university today. We were hailed as true artists.

I'm skeptical about those ages of sexual activity. They sound too young, somewhat younger than the straight population who don't even need to hide who they are.

Honestly, the first sexual experience with other girls sounds a little old to me.

Theres been progress but sadly in my state there has been none. My school it's not safe to come out, in fact it's not safe to even be Bi.
GOD I HATE THE BIBLE BELT!
I can't wait until I move out of this red neck hick state when I get the chance.

You'd be surprised. At that age I knew exactly where to go if I wanted to get laid, quickly and anonymously. I don't know how it is for lesbians, but gay men are men, with all the libido that comes along with that, and that should tip you off on how easy it is to find someone else who's just up for a fuck, no questions asked, if that's the thing you want, which teenage boys (and many men) tend to want.
Hey I'm average, lost my virginity at 14, though in retrospect I should of waited. Ahh hormones.

Indeed. In my country the average age for losing virginity, among all people is 17, so 14 sounded young to me.

Eh. In my experience, a lot of guys and girls who claim they're gay or bisexual in middle and high school are for the most part just attention whores. Not that there arn't real ones, but the attention whores are the vast majority at least around here.

No offence, but you're from Ireland. ;)
14 is a bit young (I'm about that age and it seems young to me anyway), but go-whatever-state that is. I'm all for gay acceptance. If you ask me it needs to happen in more places.

*yawns* Not really news to me. I'm a bisexual teen in Massachusetts. There are definitely some people in it for attention, but I mean, a lot of those are chicks. I've heard someone say "I'm bi cause it makes guys like me more" and I just laughed, and told them they weren't actually bi, they were just really horny.

Apparently guys are just as horny if they're gay as they would be if they were straight.

14 was age of sexual contact. that just means that when 2 boys are in private hormones can take over. especially if one or both happen to be gay.

This isn't uncommon where I am among straight people. Hell, I lost my virginity at 14 (6 months ago) although in retrospect I regret the circumstances and wish I could have waited just 3 months longer.

I came out in middle school. Isn't the fact that this can happen supposed to be a good thing? Hell even if you don't like gay marriage, do you support gay bashing? I mean really people, they're coming out when they 'reach that age' it's not like they're 8 year old sluts....not saying we aren't out there, but not OUT there, ya know ;)
Why is it a bad thing that gay teenagers are able to come out?
Straight teenagers are perfectly allowed by society to express their desires, why should it be any different for gay teenagers?
