Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Felon) in More Trouble

He faces two more indictments handed down by a grand jury separate from that which indicted him for "criminal conspiracy" last week.

In addition to said count, he now is charged with money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9583433/).

I think he should have been charged with money laundering to begin with, because last week, when I was trying to explain the allegations against him that then existed, all of them asked me "Well, isn't that money laundering?" I pretty much had to say yes.

Oh, and I don't mean for my subject line to imply that all Republicans are felons, only the Republican politicians :D

Supposedly he put a whole new face on Texas politics:

Just another indictment by a prosecutor who's throwing things against the wall to see what sticks. Earle's been trying to get Republican politicians into court for years and everytime he gets his rear end handed to him in a platter. The timing of these baseless indictments is all designed by Earle for maximum smear impact.

I think this "case" will be thrown out, just like every other case Earle has brought against GOP pols, for lack of evidence.

Please, DeLay's as crooked as a hunchback doing the twist. Good riddance.

Actually, he's in roughly the same amount of 'trouble.' The conspiracy charge basically fell through, but now there's another charge in another court.. so it's almost an even swap.. money laundering for conspiracy.. not sure which carries the greater possible punishment.. could be a net gain or loss in potential fines/jailtime, not sure.

Every other case against GOP? You mean all three of them? He's gone after 12 Democrats btw.

Oh shut the hell up. Washington D.C. is full of goddamned crooks boning over the American people. If Tom Delay isn't one of the most corrupt son of a bitches there is in Washington, neither is Ted Kennedy who killed a woman in a car accident and used his power to get away with it, and corruption in Washington DC is non-existant.

Don't defend this crooked bastard. Even his damned brother stole money from a local city in my area (Brownsville, Texas) in the area of a couple of million dollars for a bridge project that was never constructed but the money allocated for the project disappeared. His whole family is probably a bunch of sweet talking thieves. If you've got political party issues and to much loyalty to your political party than to the republic, then for crying out loud, demand Ted Kennedy get sent to jail.

Goddamned party loyalist.

That's not the way I read the various stories on this--the original indictment still stands for now, as the judge who will hear the case was out fo the country and no other judges were going to toss it before the presiding judge heard the case. Remember, the guy claiming the first charge is bogus is the defense attorney for the accused--hardly an unbiased commentator on the issue. I don't know if it'll get tossed or not--a UT Law professor seems to think that DeGuerin's motion is crap, but I don't know how unbiased he is either.

I'm perfectly happy to wait and see how it turns out in court, however, because in the long run, DeLay is out of power. He'll never regain the leadership, because he trained the people beneath him too well--they'll never let him get back in over them.

Read the last sentence in the article. If Bush's "hometown" newspaper isn't credible enough for you, I'll have to dig up more links.

You're from Brownsville? I grew up in Harlingen. What bridge project? Must have happened after I left in '96.

You are so full of shit! A freaking shill for the Republicans!
Of 15 politicians Earle has gone after in his career, TWELVE were Democrats, and only THREE were Republicans!! So how's Earle on a partisan witch hunt??

Incidentally, one of the 3 Republicans was Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison...and that one never even saw a courtroom!

So, you are full of shit! I lived in Austin for nine years. I always admired Ronnie Earle. He's done a damn good job! why do you think no one even BOTHERED to run against him? Because he's good, and the people of Travis County know this, and support him.

And before you say he faced no competition because a Republican knew he couldn't win in "a liberal shithole" like austin...well, let me tell you, the redistricting horseshit that got rammed through by DeLay, caused me to get moved from the old 10th District (D-Lloyd Doggett) to the newly-created 25th District...to which Doggett transferred.
The new 25th district was 75% Democrat. The typical sort of gerrymandered District...try to pack as many Dems as possible into as few Districts as possible, giving up on the Districts you know you can't win...and packing the Dems from other districts into the districts you've given up on.

YET...even with a 75/25 ratio of D versus R in the new District, Rebecca Armendariz Klein (Republican) tried to run against Doggett for the new seat, and lost handily. Incidentally, I might point out that, in the Republican PRIMARIES, she was just "Rebecca Klein." THEN, after she got the nomination, she suddenly became "Rebecca ARMENDARIZ Klein" in a blatant attempt to make herself appear Hispanic, in hopes Hispanic people would be stupid enough to vote for her because of her Hispanic-sounding name. They didn't fall for the bullshit.

Actually, I also live near Harlingen in the rural area of the small town Santa Rosa which is north of La Feria. I was talking about the bridge project for Brownsville to Padre Island. It happened around 1999-2000 I think. The Delay prick just disappeared with a load of Brownsville's cash.

Thanks, it's pretty sad how we Americans have to rely upon foreign media if we want to know about these kinds of things :(

So, you're one of those who believes that someone is guilty before they even have a trial?

Just like those Republicans who thought the Clintons were as good as guilty over Travelgate, or Whitewater?

Makes you smell just like them.

I believe that Tom DeLay should have a fair trial. Hell, I believe that Saddam Hussein should get a fair trial.

Note that if I was called to serve on a jury in this case, I would admit freely that I could not render an unbiased verdict. Not all people would be that honest.
