Should I evacuate?
Deadly Hurricane Otis is headed right towards Arizona. FEMA says we may see temperatures plummet by as much as 5 degrees, a chance of light showers as great as 30% and sustained winds in the 15-25 mph range. What should I do?

where at in AZ? I used to live in Tucson and the monsoon got pretty brutal, but other than that I wouldn't worry, I mean this time of year a 5 degree drop in temp might be welcomed right?! :p

Evacuate ... your bowels. :D

Why are they at Otis? Weren't they just at Rita...? Did they go backwards for some reason?
Wait, why does Arizona, a land-locked state, get hit with a hurricane but me in coastal Southern California doesn't?

pacific storm names start at the middle of the alphabet. most years there arent more than 13 named storms in the atlantic so no one notices.
otis went up the gulf of california so it never hit the california coast.
im hoping to get some rain from it too, we can use all the moisture we can get

Otis is a Pacific storm, so it's on a different list than the Atlantic ones, and it'll hit AZ by coming up through Mexico, if it does at all... :) bypassing sunny coastal California

Speaking from the point of view of someone who has the NHC site as his home page, I can tell you to stay put - Otis isn't going to affect land whatsoever.

We get wildfires and earthquakes. All things being equal, I'll take that. Especially me, since I'm in Northern California which is so clearly superiour. We even get our own spellings.
I haven't dug at you for being in the wrong end of the state in a while...

I'm in Tempe. We just got, maybe, fifteen raindrops a couple minutes ago, and that's probably all we'll ever see.

For the love of GOD LEAVE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O God! I should have evacuated! We are in the eye of the storm now... I know it's crazy, but I just went outside. As I walked out the door, I was pelted by numerous wet globs that I believe are referred to as "raindrops". My car... Oh my car! ...It is slightly wet. I don't know what to do... I think I am going to try to make my way down to the Cardinals football stadium. I hear there are federal troops down there distributing warm towels. I may not be in contact for awhile. Tell FEMA to send Ice. A billion tons of Ice! Orange juice too. And Vodka. Chips and Salsa would also be good. Pray for me.

I have lived in Florida for almost 30 years. Hurricanes are nothing to me. Unless you live in a trailer, within 5 miles of the coast, or below sea level, the only thing you will have to worry about is a few fallen tree limbs and a possible power outage. If you live in an area that floods often, then that will probably happen. Otherwise, have a hurricane party.

Rofl 15-25 mph
That's less than a air conditioner.
Are you retarded? Rainfall won't hurt you just stay inside. Evacuating from this minor threat is like evacuating from a thunder storm. Plus, hurricanes only hit along the Atlantic Coast, Gulf of Mexico, and Carribean. The rest of the country only gets rainfall, not even flooding. Arizona is protected by two states New Mexico and Texas, the Hurricane won't hurt a tough pick when it hits you. If you Trust me I've use to live in Mobile, Al, they get 2+ hurricanes a year, real hurricanes, not pussy rainfall with air conditioned winds.
You must flee! Doom is upon you! Run for your life, leaving your house and all your possessions to the mercy of looters... er, I mean the terrible winds and driving rain! Only by hiding in a 14-ft-deep hole in the ground can you escape the might of the awful storm!
Unless you already live in one, of course. Most of us do. ;)

I agree most whole-heartedly. Northern California is definitely worth the occasional Earthquake (it's not like big ones happen very often anyway). Furthermore, we have natural fog, while those in LA create theirs artificially (smog).
Oh, and by the way, I think the author of this thread should take the last option, it's clearly the most productive one.

Yeah, but it kind of missed the point.
Really obvious, blatant sarcasm (e.g. "Yeah, I really want to go and accidentally poison myself with strychnine right now") is good, but more subtle sarcasm can be a lot better and more effective (e.g. "Wow, this was certainly a wonderful and dramatic musical, fully deserving of much better reviews than the media condescendingly gave" as applies to Cats.)

Yes. I'm sure in Alabama the sarcasm is a good deal less nuanced than in other parts of the country. And yes I just gotta admit that your comment was totally sweet. Sweet in a totally kick-ass way. You rock.

Dude get the fuck out of there!! Those winds are capable of uprooting shrubberies and small weeds and flinging them through the air with surprising velocity. Trust me you do not want to get whacked in the face by one of those, that'd cause painful bruising.

I agree that the people who killed that poor fish were pricks... basically everyone I've talked to who knows about it is still pissed. Did you know that apparently you can't even eat Koi? They killed the fish, and then just bought a trout or something at the store to eat.
And no, I'm not a film major, though one of the guys in my hall is. I'm a music major.
And yes, Santa Cruz, luckily is on the good part of the State, and Porter is close to the music center, so it's convenient. But those College Eight people, they're kinda strange...

I suspect that more than one of the guys in your hall is a film major.
I actually chose UCSC as a music major(sax) to study under Cope but eventually transfered as a film major. And the sax instructor, who I played for previously and who introduced me to free jazz.
I think there would some at that campus that would raise eyebrows at a Porter student calling anyone strange, but yeah-they're a little off. Comes from not having a college name.

This is a Pacific hurricane. They have a separate system. The last newsworthy US Pacific hurricane strike was Iniki in Hawai'i back in the early 90s.

Look at a map. See that big ol' land mass south of the US? That's called Mexico. Hurricanes don't have to come through California to get to Arizona. Patricentric much?
