"Rich" is a state of mind. I consider myself rich, even though, as a disabled veteran, I have trouble making ends meet and live very simply.

rich is subjective. someone who is rich to me may be poor to someone else.
you can be spoiled without being rich.
spoiled-having a sense of entitlement, you deserve whatever you want because you want it and you must have it now or life isn't fair.....
I consider myself rich even though I am living below the median income in my state.
I have everything I need and most of what I want. I worked really hard when I was younger and now I can slack off a little, but I keep an eye on my money, and I don't live paycheck to paycheck.
My husband lost his job 2 years ago and we took a 50% cut in pay, our quality of life didn't change much because we were only living on 50% of what we made anyway, we are living on 65% now but it is impossible to make it on less (darn inflation) but we are doing okay, and our kids are doing better than thier peers whose parents make twice as much.
It's all about money management :)
Rich is having enough resources to support your prefered lifestyle without having to do any work that you would not want to do for free.
If you love pottery and would spend all day doing it if you won the lottery and could afford to quit your job then you are rich if you can afford to keep up a potter's studio by making and selling pottery.
If you have no idea what you want to do with your life then you are rich if you can afford to go looking for ideas, like my cousin who gets scholarships thrown at her feet because she's just such a brilliant student.
Spoiled is bragging about your shit on the internet under the guise of asking the definition of rich.
"Rich" is a state of mind. I consider myself rich, even though, as a disabled veteran, I have trouble making ends meet and live very simply.
I agree there Eutrusca. I love my job and am happy with life. That is my wealth.

Rich is having more money than I would know what to do with.
Right now, that's about 40 bucks. I don't want much right now. A pizza and a couple of books.
But it could change sometime.

being rich has nothing to do with material possessions. My definition of rich is being financially independent, meaning you need not worry about making ends meek while living comfortably. The millionaire next door does not drive a new sports car or SUV, he doesn't live in a huge two story house, probably doesn't have a 52" plasma TV, but he lives comfortably. Most people, especially today, have all that crap, but are in debt up to their eyeballs and cannot be considered rich in the slightest sense.
Also, it's a mater of personal taste, as Eutrusca pointed out, just having a family or a good job or LSD or whatever makes you happy, (and being at his age :p ) accomplishing what you wanted to do in life, having no (or at least minimal) regrets, can qualify you as "rich."

About the best explanation that I've heard is having enough money is like having enough air. If you are able to breathe normally, then you have enough air. If you are able to live normally, then you have enough money.
If you're spoiled, you go around showing everyone how much air you can breathe.

My Aunt and Uncle earn about they same and I would call them rich. He put a $2500 engine in his car after the last $1600 engine broke after a year.
What do you mean by 'Brand Name'. Gap is brand name, but anyone can afford it.
If you have to ask people if you are rich, you are rich.
my family, I would think, is at least upper-middle class. My dad makes... Dont quite remember hourly, but about 140k a year, minus taxes. My mom makes maybe 10k, working alot less(yard-duty at a school).
I'm not rich though. My parents don't buy me shit, really. Except for holidays and the like, and I hardly get much more than most people.
"Rich" has nothing to do with possessions or money. You are rich if you are satisfied with what you have. Confucius had a proverb about that once, but I'm too lazy to remember it right now.

Netspeak: jeez, ur the difination of spoiled, man! i dont get nearly thhat much stuff from my parents!
English: Jeez, you’re the definition of spoiled, man! I don’t get nearly that much stuff from my parents!

It can be deduced, yes, but most people are too lazy to want to deal with that. Or, like me, they're trained to write properly.
Yes, I can wtite properly too, and type properly also. I just dont feel the need to type the way I am right now because there is no point in it, it's much easier to just use shorthand to save time.

Eut, in the last 5 minutes, I have read several posts by you, and let me say this: I have gained much respect for you.
Anyway, my 2 cents. Wealth can be a measurement of anything. I am very blessed to have a monetarily wealthy family, as well as a very loving devoted family and amazing friends. I consider myself very lucky. Monetary wealth is fleeting.

I live in one of the strangest counties in the country... Those with alot of money dress up as farmers and work the fields and whatnot, and those without alot of money run around in suits and ties wherever they go. Would I consider them rich? Yes, because they find fullfillment in things like hard work and good friends. Heck, a nearby neighbor has 2 helicopters, but you can always find him working horses or cleaning stalls or maintaining fields.

''rich'' is not worrying about money.
ay, somebody beat me to it, but let me repeat it.
i love all your "rich is not about money/posession/blah, i feel rich because i have my wife/family/blah" answers, and i'd say this i a great attitude towards life, but it is beside the point to harp on the several meanings of rich.
i think, by listing their posessions/money, bleenie mad it rather clear which meaning of 'rich' she was referring to.
which gets me back to my opinion, and the quote. i agree. you're rich when money's something that is just there. when you don't have to think about it. when you don't have to look at pricetags, when you don't compare brands when shopping for groceries as to which has the best price/quality ratio (or the best you can afford), when you don't have to think about what kind of things you might not be able to afford anymore if you buy this-or-that now.
i've considered myself rich before i left my parnets' house and went to college. i'd get what i asked for, and i never needed t worry at the grocer's or clothes shop about whether i really needed this or that, i could just buy it. there was always money if i needed it.
now, i live on my own and i have to look ahead and see what i still need to pay, calculating how much i have left, and i ahve to make trade-offs and i look for bargains and shop where i know it's cheapest.
i think that 'spoiled' is when you take whatever it is you want for granted, without being thankful for it and/or caring others have less. when you can't accept that you cannot have something because it's just not available right now. being rich, even being very rich, doesn't mean you're spoiled. spoiled you'd only be if you couldn't accept it if you had to lose it one day.

Democrats define the rich as anyone who makes more than $ 20,000.00 a year. Republicans call anyone who makes more than $ 150,000.00 a year rich. It's all in your political prospective. :)

Most people don't realize how important it is to have a job you love. I have had jobs that I grew to hate and it sure affects your life in a negative manner. Having a job you love makes life so very much better.

rich Audio pronunciation of "rich" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rch)
adj. rich·er, rich·est

2. Having great worth or value: a rich harvest of grain.
3. Magnificent; sumptuous: a rich brocade.
4.
1. Having an abundant supply: rich in ideas.
2. Abounding, especially in natural resources: rich land.
5. Meaningful and significant: “a rich sense of the transaction between writer and reader” (William Zinsser).
6. Very productive and therefore financially profitable: rich seams of coal.
7.
1. Containing a large amount of choice ingredients, such as butter, sugar, or eggs, and therefore unusually heavy or sweet: a rich dessert.
2. Having or exuding a strong or pungent aroma: “Texas air is so rich you can nourish off it like it was food” (Edna Ferber).

1. Pleasantly full and mellow: a rich tenor voice.
2. Warm and strong in color: a rich brown velvet.
9. Containing a large proportion of fuel to air: a rich gas mixture.
10. Informal. Highly amusing.
Well rich seems to be subjectively dependent on what you consider a "great" possession of material wealth, at least according to dictionary.com
So there's no hard answer.
It generally boils down to "greater than my own" possession of material wealth, as no one I know tends to describe themselves as rich.
