Censorship at Target

Recently Target recalled clothes made by Roma Atletica because they featured the Soviet hammer and sickle and russian letters CCCP. I am outraged by this being someone who supports socialism. If people such as Radley Balko did not like the clothing then they should have shoped somewhere else rather than complaing abbout it. I wanted to purchase these items and searched for weeks only to find out that Target had recalled them. I am hoping Target will realize their stupidity and bring the clothes back. Until then all I can do is write to them.

Those CCCP shirts have nothing to due with Socialism. They are simply a novalty item (like the lighters with Moa's portrait in China, Soviet Russia jokes).

Hey, did'ent one of the characters in the anime Fooly Cooly wear one of those CCCP shirts? I believe she did.

The point is whoever complained about those shirts needs to get a life.

What are you doing shopping in Target if you're a socialist? You're just giving money to the CEO kings. Never mind. The streets will be washed with their blood.

LOL... I really needed that, thanks. I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time... I mean it man. That was hillarious.

Well, they are allowed to determine what merchandise they sell, being a private sector corporation and all.

Of course, if you're a socialist the USSR isn't exactly something to be proud of, but...

That's lame. But Target sucks anyway, you should shop at local shops. Like T-shirt Orgy (in Berkeley).

I did a quick google search and found this (http://www.bornintheussr.com/) website. Apparently they sell shirts with various themes from the USSR but their products are made in the USA... Interesting to say the least.

I'm planning on ordering one of these (http://www.bornintheussr.com/t214.jpg) because it looks funny....

Part of running a company is determining what your customers want in order to sell it to them. Target has obviously noticed that these shirts either (a) don't sell, or (b) creat more controversy than they're worth. If you really want one of those shirts, I'm sure you can get them online, and in the meantime Target has a perfect right to cater to the majority of its customers instead of you.

Exactly. It's supply and demand, nothing more.

She wore a purple sweater with "USSR" on it.

Anyway, I'm not mad. I've tried one of these exact same CCCP shirts on at Marshalls. It's SO uncomfortable at the collar area.

Think it might've been recalled because it sucked?

In Murmansk in Russia, you can buy not only Stalin and Lenin dolls and other novelty USSR items, but also iron crosses and swastikas (on medals, helmets, etc.)

Quite a surprise when I first saw it...

Can anyone actually think of any clothes shops which a Socialist can go to with a clear conscience? They're all parts of huge chains.

Yeah, that's called "business can choose for itself what products to sell you," not "censorship."

In addition there's the concept of "consumers like you can choose what businesses to buy products from" I'd like to introduce you to.

American Apparel claims to be sweat-free, natural fibers, locally made by unions earning proper wages, and their prices are not too high.

Controversial ads, though. You're not opposed to sex, I hope?

No, they aren't. In most places in England there are plenty of independent clothes shops if you open your eyes. The clearest conscience can be obtained by shopping at Oxfam, Barnardos and other charity shops.
