Any paintball experts here? Im going Monday for only the 3rd time.... A few questions
1. What should I wear... Would Sweaters work or multiple shirts? how about pants, should I wear sweatpants?
2. Here are the fields and we will probably be seperated into teams, what are some good strategies for the fields?
X-BALL ARENA >>>
New X-ball field is up for scheduled team practices and walk ons. Enjoy this fast paced 5-man format where the spectators can get involved. Holler, coach and cheer for your favorite team.... yes, it's legal in X-ball.
BARREL FIELD >>>
10man Concept field designed after the 2001 NPPL field played in Chicago. With a big center 50 surrounded by "X" bunkers with a 70' snake on one side and "L" bunkers on the other. Very popular with our 10man PSP teams.
7man LEGO FIELD >>>
Popular with our 5 and 7man teams. A big "2 House" structure in the center 50 mixed in with another "house" on the tapeline connected by a snake make for an interesting and fun game. The other tapeline has 3 "X's" which enables you to get awesome angles.
10man LEGO FIELD >>>
Another one of our bigger concept fields and popular with both tournament players and rec-ballers. Nice center 50 structure with a ladder on the tapeline and a cluster of bunkers on the other side making for a very strategic game.
SPOOLS FIELD >>>
Not your average spools field. This field was designed to be very even from either side. There are so many ways to play this field making it popular with tournament players and walk ons. Strategy counts on this field!!!
MOUNDS FIELD >>>
COMING SOON!!!
The mounds field is shaping up and should be done by Spring of 2004.
TRENCH FIELD >>>
COMING SOON!!!
One of the newest fields we're building. Hide and Crawl your way into the opponent's side through dug up trenches. But beware, your opponent's trying to do the same thing. Should be completed by Spring/Summer 2004.
any extra tips or pointers ?
Our 5man Sup'Air field is our smallest field and definitely fast paced. Knowing your lanes and great shooting skills is a big plus when playing this field. Very fun and strategic.
1. A cup. Protect your groin.
2. A face-mask. Duh. Paint that hits you in mouth piece will splash in your face underneath.
3. Wear a cap or something and protect the rest of your head. I use a modified kevlar helmet.
4. Keep yourself hydrated. Most paintball injuries are from dehydration or heat stroke.
5. COMMUNICATE. 5 enemy in the bunker? Tell your teamates to lay down some cover fire while you manuver!
6. Don't camp, hustle!
7. They're not dead until they raise thier marker in the air!
8, Get yourself a vest if you're going to be serious about this. My vest: http://flurryindustries.com/

Wear what others wear to avoid confusion.. if you're in a dark sweater and black jeans while everyone else is in BDU's, you got problems.. ;)
Never heard of wearing a cup though.. but I guess if you're paranoid, do it.. i've never been shot in the crotch, but when I played, no one had $1800 guns that shot 15/second, either. meh.
Bring some flares or colored smoke if you're playing in thin woods for long periods of time.. designate runners to keep tabs, etc. Indoor though, just keep moving and keep your head down. :)

Yeah, my group all wears olive drab, though we play even teams so sometimes things still get confusing.
I wear a cup because our sniper can tweak his marker to 450 fps and his marker is only like $300 so it's pretty common. Btw, try not to get shot in the throat.

Here's a bit of advice...
Too much protection is (at least in my opinion) worse than having very little protection. The discomfort caused by you overheating due to you having excessive layers of clothing far outweighs the discomfort caused by a paintball. Ten seconds of pain versus two hours of scorching heat and sweating? It doesn't matter if it's thirty degrees out there. Once you're out on the field, you WILL get hot. If you wear too many layers your mask will fog up, you'll lose water like you wouldn't believe, and you won't be as mobile.
This is what I wear: Pants, shirt, jacket, gloves, and of course the mask. Head protection is counterproductive. Most of the heat from your body dissipates through where? Your head. If you have it covered, you're trapping that heat in. You NEED to be well ventilated to keep from fogging up your mask. If you mask fogs up, it might as well be game over for you.
Also, don't be too eager to shoot at everything that moves. If you don't shoot unless you have a clean shot, you're less likely to give your position away. Don't take the shot unless you're sure you have a decent chance of hitting the guy. That doesn't mean stay in one place, it just means choose your shots wisely.
Well, I guess it all depends on what game you're playing. I'm a woodsballer. If you're doing speedball, then the strategy may be this... "shoot constantly until everything in front of you is dyed with paint."
Also, it's generally bad policy to have your gun above 300+ feet per second. 280-300 is what most fields allow. If you go above that, you're cheating (at least in my book) and causing unnecessary pain to other people. Chronograph all your guns before you play, so everyone is shooting at the same speed.
*shrugs*
You'll learn the more you play. But remember... never take off your mask while you're playing. ;)

I used to play in a t-shirt and jeans, but we played in a large forrest in Illinois, and games would go on for hours, over a halfmile-square area, so when you got hit, it was often from long range, and by a team of two, or sometimes an individual, so no need for masks or protection... but if I were playing in a tiny indoor arena, I'd probably be wearing three layers..
I used to have a TL, usually set at 600.. cutting edge for 1999.. I dunno what people use now.. the only downside back when we'd play was ticks and mosquitoes, and sometimes leaches.. you'd be covered in one of the three, guaranteed. :)

Paint is Great but Airsoft is better and more realistic! The guns are the same shape and weight as the real thing and are battery powered so the muzzle velocity is better so less wind shear! Just as much fun either way!

Wear nothing. Be a man.
And use Blue paint. Any outsiders what wander in will think they done found a long lost tribe of Celts!
LOL!
Advice: Wear a ski mask and BDUs. It works wonders here in Norway (but then, I'm playing out in the forest at temperatures of 10° C).

Wear under armor, you know the stuff you wear under sports gear. I've worn it my past two times and everything that's hit me has bounced off. lol I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not, but I got hit like 5 times and they all bounced off. :)

Teamwork will actually get you everywhere. Split your team into at least two groups - one to draw fire, the other to flank and whup ass!
As to clothing, I wouldn't recommend much more than two layers (where I go, we get given coverall things, so technically 3 layers) but several thin layers is better than one thick, coz then you can optimise layers arther than being too hot or too cold with no inbetween.
Headgear - facemask definitely. An anti-fog one if you can (you can get crazy full-head helmets with little fans to prevent fogging, but they're like £45, which is what, $80? Something like that - worth it for long term playing though.)
Gloves - only if it's cold. Bear hands are much more mobile, and the chances of getting hit in the hand are small enough to warrant the extra mobility over the pain relief - which wouldn't be all that anyway. There's nothing worse than going to fire and getting your trigger finger glove caught so you can't. It's as bad as running out of ammo just as you take a kill shot.
Decent footwear - like hiking boots. I dunno how bad it is at yours, but sprinting under fire and twisting your ankle (maybe breaking if your really unluck) is the biggest bastard ever.
A cup might be advisable yeah - I've never been shot there, but I've been hit (fist, foot etc) enough, and it hurts. A lot. As you probably know. Depends on you really.
Oh and one last thing - if you're just going for facemask, not helmet, make sure you take something to cover the rest of your head - even a cloth balaclava is better than nothing. I was hit twice in the head in rapid succession - exactly the same spot - and it cained like a bitch. But nowhere near as much as it did without the cloth.
And the most important thing - have fun! Who cares if you lose? Provided you get some decent shots/kills in, its just fun!

Yes, bathe in woad and wrestle a bear on a dew bejewled prarie before embarking on your quest of liquidous destruction.
Me and my homeboys play in -10 degrees Farienheit, in the winter, oh yeah, with nuttin but long-johns and layers of t-shirts and pants, with a mask, of course. Sometimes, yes, we do get a little numb...okay really numb...and then when we can't feel the trigger, a ceasefire is called, and we warm up in cars. Lessons from deer camp help alot in this situation!
In the summer, its more minimalist, and we generally like the man approach, but, due to certain intrests about having children, we generally don't bear it all and wear jeans and a dark shirt, or go with camo. Don't wear a cup, it doesn't hurt if your wearing baggy pants. The jock itch isn't worth it. And if you are caught point black with a barrel at the family jewels, just give up. Surrender. But, sometimes you'll get shot anyhow, and then there's revenge.... :D
