Anyone ever used a 6 point system?

Silence and Nothing

it all started when my History teacher gave me a disco ball and told me I had to use it in my report about the Railroad Strike of 1877.
I know they have nothing to do with each other, so I wrote out a 6 point system and managed to connect them...though it was a little far-fetched.
this was what I wrote:
"Disco ball-
which reminds me of: the 70’s
When Charles Manson was arrested
who looks like a homeless man
which means: lack of money
which was the cause of the Railroad Workers strike of 1877"
I showed this to the teacher and all he said was "Wow..."
My next one? connecting gummy bears to Count Dracula. ;)

It was based off that, but that game was before my time. Plus, I think there were more points...and I don't know who Kevin Bacon is. (due to the fact I care very little about celebs.)

My husband and I used to play the six degrees of Kevin Bacon game, and got bored, so then we used random actors (which is still kinda fun) but since he has been in a film now we try to connect him to people. superfun for him. :D

this could be a new game for us though. although things would be pretty subjective and he is overanalytical. It's easier with the movie game because either Billy Dee Williams was in Batman with Michael Keaton or he wasn't. ;)

Ok, here's my Gummy Bears-Dracula one:
Gummy bears are
good to eat like cookies
which I have seen spelled with a "k"
and if you say it right sounds like a retarded "Caw"
which is the sound crows make
who are symbols of Holloween like Count Dracula

I like it. :D

probably in your version

in our actor to actor version it seems like more of a challenge to try to use minimal movies

for example

Peter O'toole to Toni Danza.

Peter O'toole was in Super Girl with Mark Mc Clure
who was in Super Man with Gene Hackman
who was in Enemy of the State with Will Smith
who was in Independence Day with Bill Pullman
who was in Space Balls with Dick Van Patten
who was in Robin Hood Men in Tights with Carey Elwes
who was in Princess Bride with Wallace Shawn
who was in she's out of control with Tony Danza

Okay so it took me eight but I would like to see anyone else do better on a morphine patch and two hours of sleep, and no imdb that's cheating.....

ps this is my last off topic post in this thred.... :)

Ink- Oprah Winphrey

The Bible-Brittany Spears

The bible is read by many people
like the Davinci Code
which would put the author in the 6th circle of hell (going by Dante)
which most highschoolers don't understand
like teenager's parents
who hate Brittany Spears

huh. I kinda like it.

That Peter O'Toole to Toni Danza one - I can do it in less than eight, but it's not quite actor to actor. I've taken a few liberations with the rules, so this might not count :D

Peter O'Toole was in Troy with Sean Bean
Who was in Equilibrium with Christian Bale
Who played Batman, just like
Adam West, who does voice overs for Family Guy
Which once featured Toni Danza

As I said, not quite in accordance with the rules, but I like it :P

Someone do 9/11 to Saddam...

Saddam hussein invaded Kuwait
America sent troops into Saudi Arabia, to invade Iraq
Osama bin laden didn't like America in Saudi Arabia, and declares a Jihad
In this Jihad, Osama Bin laden orchestrates an attack on the United states.
On september eleventh, 2001, people on Osama bin laden's behalf hijack american airplanes
These hijackers fly into the world trade centers and the pentagon, marking the day 9/11 into history.

It coulda been done in four, but might as well do six.

Black Sabbath-Torah

Black Sabbath's lead singer (I think) is Ozzi Ozborne
who had a reality show where his wife once threw a ham at her neibors
and ham is not kosher

which is said in the Torah

Now try to connect Black Sabbath with the Torah

Black Sabbath has the word Sabbath in it
Which according to the Romans sounded like the name of the Thracian God Sabezius
Whose worshippers were persecuted in Rome
For the same reason the Jews were
The Jews have a holy book
It's called the Torah

It could've been done in a lot less steps, too.

I don't think there are really any set "rules" as it is not an official game.
My husband and I have been playing our version for about 6 years now though so we have many rules that most people wouldn't follow, and they change just about every time that we play. For example sometimes we aren't allowed to use Kevin Spacey, or can't use voices from cartoon movies (ie Toy Story is a great connector, a whole lot of people were in it)

Anyway it is meant to be fun, play it however is more fun for you. My husband and I are movie freaks (we have seen movies people haven't ever heard of) so the more difficult it is, the funner it is for us. One time on a road trip we played it where you couldn't use any movies that were directed by Jewish directors, and another time we made it where you had to pass through a Godfather movie on every connection. Super fun....

but then again we are incredibly weird..... :p

sorry.

It is soo hard to explain the plot, here goes my best attempt

guy gambles with moblike individuals, turns out the game was fixed (big surprise) he has a time limit on paying back the money that is humanly impossible, hilarity ensues.

There are sub-plots on top of sub-plots (like 6 different stories going on at once) and the film jumps around a lot (kinda like a Quentin Tarantino film only better and harder to follow) you may have to watch it twice to get what went down, and unless you are British make sure you turn on the subtitles because thier accents are very thick and you have to listen for forshadowing.

good luck finding it. I think they have it on netflix :)

found it on Amazon starting at about $7.00 when you aren't so hard pressed you might check it out. Also they may have it at your local video store (the big chains usually do) but since I don't know where local is for you I can't help much. You could con a friend into renting it, or ask for it for Christmas (that's how I got my copy :D)

Adolph Hitler >>> Disco
Seriously, this was one of my points in a debate case.
I lost that round.
But it was really funny. :D

Adolph Hitler loved music
He liked Wagner's operas
They always had plots
Like Pink Floyd's "The Wall"
Which came out in 1979
When disco was cool

I think the actual argument was something like this.

"Adolph Hitler had a love for music, especially Wagner's operas. They were incredibly dramatic, and many of the gestures used by the singers were quite over-the-top. If you watch footage of Hitler giving a speech, he liked moving his arms a lot, and he was quite fanatical about it, too. He loved to see the crowd he was addressing moving around ridiculously, as well. I think it can be said, that if Hitler would have been alive in the late 70's-early 80's, he would have liked disco. Not only would it have provided him with plenty of opportunity to move his arms and step in time to the beat, but a lot of disco, like ABBA, had a really full sound, kind of like opera music. It wasn't as simplistic or monotone as the acoustic music popular in the 60's. Very full sounding, and very dramatic. Hitler would have loved disco. A lot of the good disco comes from Germany these days, and I don't think it's any coincidence. Germans like disco, and Hitler was the ultimate German. Therefore, Hitler would have liked disco. I think he also would have liked music by the Alan Parsons Project, because it is, in fact, somewhat like listening to what Richard Wagner's operas would have sounded like if it was made in the 80's or 90's. Very rich, very full, and very, very, dramatic, conceptual, and important-sounding. Just in case you aren't sure who Alan Parsons was, it's the guy they were talking about in the Austin Powers movie that they named this big space laser on the moon after... Did anybody else here see that?"

So humilitating to actually make those kind of arguments during debate tournaments. :headbang:

It was a miniture disco ball (I have a real one hanging up in my room), and he took it back at the end of class.
And that lawn mower thing? I just read 1984, so now I know a lot about the russian revolution (because the some of the characters were said to be based off famous people in the Russian Revolution.)

Russian Revolution-Lawn mowers
Stalin was exiled from Russia,
Like Goldstien in the book 1984 (or more of anything, went into hiding)
but there was no proof he existed,
like the reports of the voles living in my backyard
who I hope eat grubs,
who eat my grass, which my lawnmower cuts

Wow, it seems sleep deprivation gives me good ideas.

I see. And what was the point of the assignment?

Wow, it seems sleep deprivation gives me good ideas.

If you call these good ideas... Besides, I don't think you made six connections here:

Russian Revolution-Lawn mowers
ONE: Stalin was exiled from Russia,
Like Goldstien in the book 1984 (or more of anything, went into hiding)
TWO: but there was no proof he existed,
like the reports of the voles living in my backyard
THREE: who I hope eat grubs,
FOUR: who eat my grass,
FIVE: which my lawnmower cuts

I guess it "works" if you consider "reports of voles" and "voles" to make two separate connections, but that seems, to me, like cheating. If that works, after all, it would always be easy to add terms like "idea of," "report of," or "knowledge of" between two terms. If one can make connections that easily, why bother worrying about the number?

Then again, I think this whole "game" is stupid. It certainly doesn't seem to take much intelligence.
SSGX
02-10-2005, 12:34
Just so everyone knows the origin of this "game", there is a theory known as "6 degrees of separation", from a play and movie by the same name (which the "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" game is based upon), that states that every person in the world is only 6 connections (or less) from everyone else...

It works like this:

Everyone you know
Everyone they know
Everyone they know
etc

And it is thought that if you followed this out to 6 layers, you would have listed everyone in the entire world...

The Kevin Bacon game was concocted based upon this idea, as a funny commentary on how many actors can be connected to M. Bacon (and mostly because "Kevin Bacon" fits rhythmically in place of "Separation")

http://www.louisville.com/loumag/mar/bacon.htm

There's a nice article describing its birth...

And as Chellis points out, it really doesn't work by listing what things have in common... You need to find a step-by-step chain of connections... Not in the form of:

A -> B
C -> B

But:

A -> B
B -> C
C -> D
etc

It needs to work when said as A -> B - > C -> D, etc...
