Why do so many gay people support Hilary Clinton?

Would somebody care to tell me why this hypocrite is has a legion of supporters in the gay community in the US? First of all, she's a right-wing Democrat so I don't see why they're expecting Wonderwoman, secondly she has made clear her oppositiion to the legal recognition of gay couples. Think about it for a second please, she believes a right as fundamental and basic as marriage should be denied to them. She is a useless opportunist and for a self-proclaimed Christian feminist to forgive her unfaithful husband speaks for itself.
To idolize somebody like this could only be described as masochism.

Is there actually a huge gay following for Hillary? Do you have stats for it?
Anyway, followers of politicians don't really care about opportunism, hypocrisy, etc., because its really just all part of the job.

Maybe it's because gay people cover a wide spectrum of political beliefs. Just because someone is gay doesn't automatically make them a leftist liberal anymore than being straight makes someone a bushevik.
I know Republican gays, Democrat gays, Libertarian gays, Green Party gays, etc.
Anyway, that said, it's probably because she's such a fabulous dresser.

Maybe it's because she's the lesser of two evils.

Sounds about right to me... I suppose, the way they see it, a right-wing Democrat is better than a far right-wing Republican, no?

don't have a clue why anyone would support Hillary.
the thought that someday she might run for president makes me physically ill.
and if she is a "right-wing democrat" then that just reassures me in my assertion that the democrats have gone way left in the last 15 years. she is still tooo far left for me.

They support her because she's only recently discovered that she is a right-wing democrat, and they believe that she is only saying this stuff to elected. (Of course that begs the question, how do they know that she hasn't been lying to them too.)
Anyway, I wouldn't worry about her. She is going to have a much tougher re-election campaign than everyone expects. Mainly because she told a pack of lies upstate to get them to swing democrat.

Got some bad news for the original poster.
Hilary isnt a "right-wing" anything.
In fact, shes pretty much politically orientated the same way her husband was.
Moderate Democrat, maybe a touch to the left, if anything.
The Dems are far more likely not to try to change the constitution to allow discrimination like the NeoCon Republicans are.
That if any reason would be enough for most sensible gays to like her.
She may have spoken her opinion that she may not like Gay Marriage, but neither she, nor any other prominent Dems, are going to try to pass such a thing through congress, and into the Constitution.

If she has wide gay support--and I emphasize the if because thus far no one has proven that she has it--it's probably because they see her as the best opportunity for the Democrats to take the White House in 2008, and nothing more. I follow this stuff pretty carefully, and to my knowledge, no one has jumped out front as the gay champion as of yet, so if it's true, there's also the likelihood that it's due to her name recognition and frontrunner status.
Smunkeeville, if you don't mind my asking, what is it specifically that makes you think Hillary is a far-left politician? What policies, what votes, etc? Because as a person pretty far to the left, I consider her to be moderate at best, and that's giving her credit she doesn't really deserve. I'm interested in what you and other conservatives think she's done to get that label, or if it's a lot of hype from the Limbaugh's of the world that has tagged her in such a way.

Heh. Hillary, just like her hubby, has a bad habit of saying whatever will be most advantageous to her at the time. When there was a Senate opening in New York, she spontaneously metamorphosized into a lifelong Yankees fan. I don't doubt that whatever group she was addressing wanted to hear about anti-gay-marriage movements, and that was her motivation.
I'm from Illinois, and I take anything she says with a grain of salt. Hill wasn't a Chicagoan either until it turned out that we've got a lot of votes. If she has any hope of winning the presidency in 2008, then she's going to need all the support she can get. I'm counting the days until she crops up at a Cubs game.

She won't do anything to advance the interests of the gay community (for political reasons) but she won't do anything to hurt the gay community (no wacko judges that say sodomites should be executed, no consitutional amendment banning gay marrage). Under a Hillary Presidency civil rights advocates could continue their state by state campain of winning rights and legal recognition (California will join Mass. soon).

I, godd***n, agree with you there! Hilary Clinton doesn't really live up to her goals. I mean come on! She's discriminating things we do in our everyday lives: Videogames.
I am writing an angry letter to that woman to tell her all the s*** she's stirring up with games.
If she becomes president, then I'm going to be puking for the rest of my life! Who knows what she could do!

I just plain don't like her. I think a lot of her views are anything but moderate. I can't really think of specific examples. Basically she is a big government, welfare state, socialist. (others may not agree) I think that government should do for others what they cannot do, and keep thier noses out of everything else. Her whole "it takes a village" thing and the video game thing just disgust me. I live in America, so I expect to have a large amount of freedoms, I figure that if she gets any real power at all, that a lot of those freedoms will disappear. :(
