Graphics Card Question

After effectively trashing my several years old computer, I accepted my sister's old (in the sense that her newer one is 6 months newer). I didn't happen to notice until I had it that it uses an Intel Chipset 910 (PCI) as a graphics card, which is incompatable with just about everything and very buggy to say the least. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a card to upgrade to that would be preferably within $90. I am looking at an Nvidia 5200 for around $60, but if anyone has something better they can think of.

Further, I have heard that you need to disable the Intel Chipset in order to use any graphics card you put in yourself, if so, does anyone know how to go about this?

Disable the chipset eh?

Use a hammer. Possibly a bit extreme, and permanent. But it'd disable it right out!

You don't necessarily need to (I ran my ATI card for about 3 months before I got around to disabling the Intel Chipset), but it's usually a good idea.

To do so:

First, install your new card. Then:

1) Right click on "My Computer" (desktop or Start menu) and select "Properties."
2) Go to the "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager."
3) In the window that opens, go to the "View" menu and select "Show hidden devices."
4) Expand the "Display Adapters" section below. You will see a list of installed display adapters. Your newly installed card should be darkened, while other adapters will be shaded grey. Your old Intel Chipset should be among them. If you have installed/uninstalled other adapters, these may be there too, and there may be multiple copies of some.

5) Right-click each greyed adapter and select "uninstall".

If you want, you can explore the other devices for shaded entries... but remember, if you don't know what it is, it is probably a bad idea to disable it!!!
