What is the worst airline you travelled with?

My nomination is Air Transat:

They had no in-flight magazine, and they charged for drinks and for the headphones, which were only good for the movie anyway, as there were no music channels. Also, there was advertising on the trays, no legroom even in the first row, dirty and noisy lavatories, and the food was disgusting even in airplane standards. Never fly with that airline.

They cancel lots of flights, are frequently late, have no leg room, don't provide food, and are generally not good. And although they're cheap, they always announce the OMG SUPER DEAL with the tiniest of small print so that even a team of lawyers with a microscope couldn't read it, telling you that actually, it's not 7p, it's £120 and a brief-but-vigorous colonic irrigation.

Plus, their owner is annoying, and their planes are ugly.

I quite like southwest. It's a better airline on the east coast then American or Useless Airways (though that's a rather low bar)

When I was flying often out of the biggies

Sabena sucked plenty followed by air France, UA and AA where both the same in generic suckiness

Air canada Aer Fungus(Lingus) Iberia and Sas were pretty neutral tending to good

Cyprus Air (or Air Cyprus) whichever was alright and Olympic where none too shabby either

Big Yays to BA, BM, Lufty, Swissair and Emirates

out of the budget nearly all suck for exactly the same reason mentioned, yes it might have bee GBP30 to fly to biarritz from London but that was from Stanstead (£40 round trip travel) at 11 PM landed past midnight in France with no food, and the return landed at 1030 PM London time after your pre paid trasport has long gone with no facilities to stay at the airport for the 9 hours till the next coach arrives and take you back to Heathrow (via Luton and Gatwick of course),

US Airways is the worst I've flown with. They are so bad, that even first class feels similar to a ride on a school bus. And the service sucked.

Flying From Casablanca To Gib in a storm, on a virtually empty flight

The captain told us after 2 go arounds that they where waiting to see if an Air Frace Plane "Made it" after 5 minutes our cheery captain informed us well if that Wine soaked Frog can land in a storm there is no way we cant, , I was amused to see the stewards put down the seats in front of them strap themselves in and brace after telling me there was nothing to fear, it was the best roller coaster ride ever,

When we got off I found out while we were in a 737-400 the Air France plane in question was a poxy 9 seater! I joined the stewards at the bar for a couple of whiskies at tat point

BA - my mother had two flights with them, both times they lost her luggage. The second time they couldn't find it again and she got 50 Euros compensation... not a lot for a whole suitcase.

Lufthansa - charge ridiculous amount of money for ridiculously short flights with ridiculously bad service.

Interstingly enough, I've flown at least 100 times with Northwest, and I've never had my luggage lost.

Also, their flights to Europe are REALLY comfortable

It seems I've been lucky... I've flown with Korean Air, Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Air Pacific and Air France, and I can't really complain about any of them. The first two are probably the best.

I know someone who flew with a Spanish company and complained about it (in part because you had to pay for the headphones), but I can't remember which one it was.

Airtransat sucks hardcore. I really really really didn't enjoy the flight; Especially since they didn't have airconditioning... and if they did, they didn't turn it on. It was sweltering in that goddamn plane...especially when you're crammed in there.

I've flown about 6 or 7 times, always with Qantas, and never had a problem. So I can't really say.

I did once fly with a small charter airline I was doing Work Experience at. They gave me a free flight to Tasmania and back, and a free joyflight (where I got to take control) in a Cessna. That was awesome.

My bags got lost with Olympic and Alitalia.

After two weeks they even tried to make me pick up my luggage myself in the airport, 80 km from where I live. Told'm on the phone: "No, Sir, you can have them delivered at my place. No, sir, I won't pay for the delivery..."

Eventually they delivered without a bill... suckers :p

The worst overall would have to be Easyjet, I love feeling the plane lolling from side to side just as we're coming down to land. Looking out the window and watching as the wing seems to just miss the tarmac.

The worst single flight I've ever had would be on an "My Airways" flight from Paphos to Newcastle. Firstly they tried to charge me for extra legroom only on the return journey (got it no problem on the outward from Newcastle) and they also tried to charge me extra for the vegetarian meal.

The "shit your pants" scary moment came when the plane was taking off, Paphos airport has a horribly small runway and just as the plane was lifting off the ground there was an almighty bang from the left side of the plane just next to the wing. Cue many screams of "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?".

AND the nutter banked the plane so each side could see a view lovely of venice as we passed over it at 36,000 feet.

I ran off that plane when it landed.

Thompson/Hapag Lloyd.
: you have to pay for everything, their check in staff in tenerife were very surly and unhelpful and the cabin crew absolutly useless. plus i actually get more leg room on the bus to work than on thier planes.
Compared to Thompson Ryan Air was actually a very good experience despite the whole fight for your seats thing which was particualrly badly organised at bournemouth (well inside the terminal (ie hut), on the plane they were very well organised).

Well, it's not like in Africa, where you sit on a floor which you share with farm animals, and have a good chance of crashing into the jungle if the Ukrainian mercs have done a bad job of servicing the ancient aircraft.

But Aeroflot is pretty crap. Like the old British Rail Intercity train carriages. That sort of interior. I had the misfortune of taking a ride in one of those recently, it was a replacement service they scrounged out of a hangar. LOL, it was funny, they hadn't even repainted the sides. A real nostalgia trip.

Aeroflot, without a single doubt! :(

Agreed! Аэрофлот has the least amount of passenger space per person that I have ever experienced! Granted, they did have an inflight meal going from Amsterdam to St. Petersburg, but so little elbow room, the only way to eat anything was to pretend you were a fiddler crab and move your elbows in front of your chest.

Best airline though: Swissair

Jet Blue is really nice for the price. The TV in the seats make long flights a lot easier to deal with, plus there's a little more leg room than you get on most airlines in coach (if you sit in the back).

Northwest is my favorite right now (unlimited free first class upgrades if there's room w/ elite status :), and my least favorites are America West/US Air

I love US Airways, it has been my favorite airline, and someone tell me why you think it is useless? I don't want any shitty answer like "oh my bags got lost" that happens on all airlines sometimes or "the leg room was too little" well hey it isn't my problem that you couldn't stop stuffing your face with Cinnabons! Give me a legitimate reason.

I have also had very pleasureable America West flights as well.

Oh, let's see:

Back when it was USair: Pushed away from gate on time. Sat on tarmac for 4 hours before taking off. Twice.

Have to wait at least 30-60 minutes before our bags show up on the baggage claims constantly.

Constantly pushing away from the gate "on time" and sitting on the tarmac until the weather clears up/traffic jams caused by US air over Philadelphia clear up.

Forced to pay for the privilege of food on excessively long flights (eg, Philadelphia to Hawaii), and on those long flights, having about no leg room. Southwest has more leg room then USair does.

You're right, they serve Maui. Maui is a Hawaiian Island. Philidelphia is crowded because US air insists upon shoving as many people through it as they can with no regard to how many people it can handle.

The "old" KLM was good. Had good experiences with NW too

Crappy airlines:

Song: the cabin was freezing, My wife and I were actually shivering. BTW they didnt have pillows or blankets on board. Charged for food. The staff was friendly and sympathetic. Although that didnt stop shivering for 6.5 hours.

Air Maroc: A bunch of assholes. All I got to say

Southwest: Suckiness at its best

Alaska Airlines: However they do attempt to try. But Im always uneasy flying with them due to there spotty maintanence issues.

Delta: They are alright I guess

United Airlines: Screw them, will never fly with them again.

Hawaiin Airlines: Good experience with these people

British Airways: So-so experience

SAS: Again So-so experience. Flight attentandents seemed snobish at best

I have flown others but cant remember exact experiences. The mind tends to block out the worst in life...
