"The how old were you when you first started?" thread inspired this twisted bit of curosity. I don't normally ask this sort of stuff. But how long has it been since various NS'ers have had sex?

Why not? (I'm not disagreeing btw, just curious) The Bible, in the New Testament often holds up lifelong chastity as the ideal. Paul said it was the ideal, it's mentioned in other places and the 144,000 people who will still believe at the end of time… are all virgins. So I've sort of decided it's the best idea to go for.

Paul's promoting an idea, if fufilled, wipes out the human race?

That marriage (which, although I don't know the bible in huge detail, I think is intended with reproduction in mind) is provided by Christian denominations, makes this kind of unlikely in my mind.

No, I'm not that silly. Artificial insemination is now possible - it is also possible to do it without killing embryos - extract sperm from the male, and inject it into the female uterus.

Paul promoted it as an ideal, but was realistic enough to acknowlege that not many people would practice it. That's the point behind his whole "It is better to marry than to burn" thing - He meant that, if you were going to have sex (and many people would), it's better to get married and have sex "legally", instead of doing it sinfully outside of marriage and burning in Hell as a result.

Paul, of course, was an uptight, homophobic mysogynist. I often wish Christianity had been spread to the world by someone with less emotional baggage.

(Incidentally - about a week.)

its a mistake to read the book of revelations literally. no other prophecies in the bible are straightfoward

and you might remember that it was all (if its to be taken literally) supose to have happened before all the people alive at that time were dead.

good evidence that its not literal.

Close to 22 years here, too.. never have never will, etc.

Although I turn to the Philokalia, not the Book of Revelation, for my philosophical basis... although I'll admit that the ideals set forth therein are far beyond my human ability, other than those of a carnal nature, which I've never really taken to, as a matter of psychology... /rambling :)

Mass quantities of xanax, valium and/or flexeril will do the trick for that. :)
