Hecklers could be terrorists (apparently...)

There are strange goings-on at the conference of Britain's [governing] Labour Party:

During a speech by foreign secretary Jack Straw (shown live on BBC2) a delegate shouted "nonsense" and was escorted from the building before being held briefly under anti-terrorism legislation. They also threw out another delegate who said "you must be joking" to the security guards. Civil rights activists are going to have a field day with that (especially as he's an 82-year-old German Jew who has been a member of the party for 57 years).

Meanwhile a Labour Member of Parliament had his camera seized and pictures deleted after he photographed a queue. This reminds me of that case in America with the film of the queues at Disneyworld.

So Tony Blair seems to have become so paranoid that he worries even his own party members and MPs might be terrorists. (Maybe he'll have Gordon Brown [Chancellor and acknowledged Prime-Minister-in-waiting] declared a threat to the government...)

What else can you expect from New Labour? Just be glad the guy didn't end up in Belmarsh.

I'm more afraid of being detained by the police than killed by terrorists.

I suppose the counter arguement is that maybe that actually shows the police are doing a good job.

It is nonsense though, I mean, do we not have freedom of speech anymore? If he thinks something is nonsense then he should be able to voice it freely. The delegate ejected for telling them to stop because he was just an old man, wasn't at fault; he was doing what was right, like anyone would have done.

Labour needs to get back to its roots; fast.

The counter argument to that is that the Police are always more concerned with sucking up to the ruling party than any other part of their job. If half the met hadn't been in fucking Scotland for Blair's G8 conference, the business in July might not have happened.
