Pump Up the Volume

I use a voice recorder at work to do dictation, and yesterday I got a new one that didn't survive a 4-hour meeting. The volume towards the end got very soft, as the battery slowly died. Does anyone know how to boost the volume so what was recorded can be heard more clearly?

Damn, I thought this was going to be about Christian Slater movies.

Probably you'd be better off buying a new, louder recorder with more battery life.

Poor guy hasn't done anything of note in years. He's got actual talent, but now he's jsut relegated to B-Movies and direct-to-video flicks. Oh, and Alone in the Dark, which is a category of wretchedness all its own. *shudders*

What recording media does it use? (tape, minidisc, DAT, mp3)

That's the ticket! Now, how...?

It's a minicasette, Sony M-200MC.

I'll probably end up just buying a cord to plug it into a wall switch.

plug

into its headphone port, and the other end into your PC's line in or microphone port

then use a program like this one http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ to record the tape (play it and record on PC at the same time), and then boost the volume using one of its filters

if you don't happen to have one of those cables, there's not much you can do i would think. you might be able to hook the thing up to your stereo with one of those as well, btw

Achh! Pure Metal beat me to it.

Hint: Only record the bit where the volume fades.

What's the reason for that?

mwuahahahaha! ;)

another hint: you might need to select 'microphone' or 'line in' (depending on which plug you use) as your recording line... but you might not have to. if nothing happens when you try and record then we'll see

Turn it up slowly as it dies.
