4 Weddings And An Execution

A couple of weeks ago I watched this tv programme about women who marry convicted murderers and i don't mean that they were together before the men were convicted, they're women that met their husbands when they were actually in jail. The first woman saw her husband, one of the most dangerous men in Britain, in a newspaper article, and she said she couldnt take her eyes off him, she became obsessed so she started writing to him and they had phone calls then they met and ended up getting married. The second woman was a journalist in America and she was supposed to be interviewing a guy on death row and ended up falling in love with him, the 3rd woman fell in love with the guy and ended up having to give up her kids so she could marry this convicted murderer who had been described as a psychopath, he'd not only murdered the person but he tortured him beforehand and when he was in court and they were describing all this he had a smile on his face which is slightly sadistic, and the 4th woman was a policewoman who was supposed to be guarding the prisoner (this one was also on death row) they used to have sex whilst she was supposedly guarding him and she ended up having his baby before he was executed. What the hell is wrong with these women?! how can you fall in love with someone who can do that, i'm not sure who needs a psychiatrist more the murderers or their wives

Very simple, prolonged contact with people allows you to see people as people, yes, even psychopaths who have to be locked away for the rest of their lives or executed to protect the rest of society from their actions.

There was a simple experiment back then dealing with something called a monkeysphere. It made some good examples of this social interaction.

No matter how terrible the criminal, some nutty broad will always phone in a marriage proposal..

Kinda the same principle as confessing to a notorious crime, even though you had nothing to do with it.. some people just want notoriety.. there's a few tax incentives, too.. at least in California, if you marry a death row inmate, believe it or not.

marrying someone who's on death row isn't really a long-term commitment, depending on how soon their excecution is scheduled. but i agree these woman need their heads checked out.

That is fucking awesome. I'll have to remember that next time I meet someone who talks about the sanctity of marriage. :D

Yep.. marry a condamned man past retirement age and you get his Social Security payments, too.. no conjugal visits are permitted in California or anything either.. so you'd really only have to put up with the guy for a few hours a month, possibly less, since the Death House is at Pelican Bay, which is like 500 miles from anywhere... at least I think that's where it is nowadays.

Death row is at Quentin, but I think they drive them north for the needle.. gotta cheack that one out..

Welcome back!

I'm not all that surprised... Anything that is unusual and dangerous/wrong can be fascinating and even exciting for some people. I suppose falling in love with a psycopath is the ultimate form of transgression, and hence the ultimate "thrill".

And there have been cases the other way round: a female North Korean who blew up a South Korean airliner in 1987, killing all on board (the second and last terrorist act committed by the DPRK), and who was subsequently pardonned by the South Korean government, later received hundreds of marriage proposals from South Korean men.

Hmm, these are probably men with poor experiences on an airliner company and probably want revenge. :p

Because the men are vulnerable.

Because they need someone to take care of them.

Because despite all the violent things they've done, in some way, shape, or form, the woman in particular (or the man, in some cases, where men marry violent women under the same circumstances) feels absolutely and utterly safe with them.

Because psychopaths can otherwise be entirely pleasant and loveable people, too.

Because the world is weird.

Pick one! :D
