The US Government isn't the only one that sucks...

Australia is currently introducing the same anti-terror laws Britain had (and which didn't prevent anything there), in order to look like its doing something.

People are continously being deported (the fact that they may in fact be Australian permanent residents or even citizens is of no consequence), because the Dept. of Immigration has made "a regrettable mistake".

I can give you many other example for why this Government is..ahem...suboptimal, but I won't for space reasons.

So here goes the Australian Government:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Howard - Our PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Costello - Our Economics Minister
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Downer - Our (don't laugh) Foreign Minister
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanda_Vanstone - Our ( ) Minister for (get this) Immigration*, Indigenous** and Multicultural Affairs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Ruddock - Our "Killing All Terrorists and People of Other Origins" (KATPOO) Minister
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Abbott - Our Minister for making Abortion a problem
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan_Nelson - Our Minister for making those pesky students pay for their views

So, Australians and otherwise, what do you think of the Australian Government?

======================================================
* Australia has been condemned repeatedly for locking asylum seekers (and their children) in "Detention Centres" (read: Concentration Camps) for years on end, without having their cases answered.

** Australian Aboriginals die, on average, 20 years younger than others. The Infant Mortality Rate is 2.5 times higher for them. The Federal Government's response was to outlaw the body overseeing Aboriginal relations with the Government, instead now "talking to each community individually".

whether you like it or not you're in a de facto state of war, measures need to be taken

So I guess my comment about the gangrenous monkey balls was correct?

Uh, I think the last military threat to Australia got its ass handed to it in a little thing called WW2.

Keep in mind these laws are grossly unconsitutional and remain so. The reaosn Howard needed the State Premiers to agree is to reduce the likelyhood the High Court will strike them down. Which some Judges have hinted off the record they would.

No, you're in a state of war. We'll be just fine, providing Howard can remove his lips from Bush's arse for five consecutive minutes.

1: They were targetting Americans
2: As far as I am aware Bali is yet to become Australian soveriegn territory

Generally speaking, that’s exactly what it means.

:D Yes it was.

I never really understood why Australians would take this so personal. It was against Westerners, and Australians reckon Bali is a good place to go and binge themselves into oblivion, but it wasn't an attack against Australia.
The Bombing of the Jakarta embassy however was.

The laws are a load of crap. They affect everyone of us to some extent, yet they have been proven impressively in London that they don't affect the Terrorists, should there be any.

I'm not at war. I never wanted to be at war.
And besides, we've been through this before (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Army_Faction), and I still wonder why we can't learn from that.

Triple J is just telling me that Education Minister Brendan Nelson may now do that speech at Sydney Uni afterall...with police protection. Pansy. :D

I'm pretty sure the last terrorist videotape to come out of wherever they're sent from threatened Australia in particular... I could be wrong though.. it's a neverending stream of mainly-BS threats out of those guys so...

Yeah, I saw that. There were two of notice recently:
One by who is allegedly an Aussie Special Forces guy who went missing and now apparently joined AQ - with full Aussie Accent threatening us if we don't leave Palesteene...

And the other by a Yank who named Melboorne...I wonder how the Sydneysiders feel now...

That shit has got to stop!

Melbourne: "We're a prime terror target"

Sydney: "We lack the funds to properly protect the Sydney Opera House"

Melbourne: "Oh please blow us up..."

Sydney: "Fuck off! If anyone's getting bobmed it'll be us!"

Meh, if the terrorists knew what was good for them, they'd attack Briz Vegas anyway...

===========================================

But seriously, I just heard that they can force people into house arrest. For a Year! Without a charge!

14 days detention without a charge - and being expelled, without ASIO (our secret police) actually telling you why.

And Labour doesn't say shit. It's not hip anymore to be seen as soft on them "towel heads"...

OI! I live in Brisbane :P.

It's pretty scary. The states have dropped the ball, majorly on this one.

I have a solution though, vote Green. Worst case scenario you're voting Labour anyway, best case scenario Labour takes back the Lower House.
