these two aren't really related (haha, i know), are they?
i mean, i voted pretty high on the "agreeing on issues" thing, yet i will not say that i get along with my parents because of that. it may have kep me from killing them form time to time (j/k), but i still preferred it to move out ASAP and not come back even for visits till now and i don't plan to do so in the near future. agreeing on issues is not all getting along is made up of.

Sort of. My mother had a strict Italian Roman Catholic upbringing and only a high school education. My father is a ex-hippie college graduated mechanical engineer. My father and I agree on a great deal of political issues (not all), and my mother and I almost never think alike.

I try not to,but they bring you up so it's hard not to agree on some things.

I'd say my parents and myself have definite tendencies to think alike, especially my father and myself, but from time to time I end up outsmarting them in their own ideals and then they just kind of blink at me. And stare.

I think most of my political veiws started out as rebelling against my parents.

they are big government socialists. and I am sooo far from that, we can't even talk about the news at Thanksgiving. They call me the capitalist heathen.

My mother and I are exact opposites in just about everything. Personality, politics, interests, religion. I'm an introvert, she's an extrovert. I'm liberal, she's conservative. I love computers and sci-fi, she hates computers and sci-fi. I'm Agnostic, she's a devout Christian.

My father and I share certain things but are opposites in other cases. I'm an introvert, he's an introvert. I'm liberal, he's conservative. I love computers and sci-fi, he loves computers and sci-fi. I'm Agnostic, he's a devout Christian.

Relationship with my mother? Nearly nonexistent since we're opposites and share no interests. With my father? Good for the most part even if our views are different, as we share many interests. He used to be a perfect match for me when it came to political and philosophical discussions, but I've been able to totally shred his arguments for a long time now.

Mom: ~30-50% (there are a couple of specific areas in which we agree, but other than that, we seldom agree. as there are many things we have never discussed however, I don't know the full extent of it)
Dad: ~60-80% (don't really know too well, as there are plenty of things we have never discussed. we seem to agree most of the time however)

Pretty much alike. I think from political standpoints, nearly the same, just that I'm probably more diplomatic when dealing with the issues. While their minds are made up, I guess I'm still finding my own two feet and what I think would be best for me and my family.

I mostly agree with my parents politically, but I have a major evil streak that comes from somewhere else.

My mother is a libertarian-leaning Republican. She tends to vote Republican in presidential elections, but in 1996 voted for Browne, the LP candidate. I'm a Republican-leaning libertarian in that I emphasize economic liberty a bit. I tend to vote for the LP in presidential and congressional elections, unless there's a viable libertarian-minded Republican running. In 2004 I voted for Badnarik. She's a little more socially conservative than I am and lately she's been tending toward the nativist/xenophobic end of Republican politics. She's nowhere near Pat Buchanan and she certainly isn't racist, but I find she pays unnecessary attention to the state of immigration and the preservation of "American culture." At least she's not the protectionist, fair-trader, outsourcing, "they're stealing our jerbs" sort. But yeah, we've very close and we agree on most things. I don't talk to my father, but last I heard he's an atheist former Catholic who votes Republican. Who knew.

I just don't agree with my parents on much. Not violently at least, well at least until my mom starts quoting out of her Ann Coulter book, and then even my Dad starts telling her to tone it down. The funny thing is, I don't think I'm a liberal but the way she starts going off just gets my blood boiling.

The parents I live with and I agree on most things. There are only a few things we don't agree on, and those are usually the ones we're least sure of our opinions on to begin with; for example gun control (or not). Generally, they're more modern liberals and I'm more radical; between a Libertarian and a Democrat, I'd probably vote Lib and they'd vote Dem.

My dad, on the other hand, I only agree with about half of the time. He is a very strange breed of Libertarian; radical on some issues, and yet uncharacteristically conservative on others (like gay marriage), but not a Republican either. He's tried to refute my arguments for gay marriage by proposing marriage to a bicycle, and asking why we shouldn't blow up Pluto. Yet he says it in such a rational tone that I never realize how ridiculous it is until afterward.

My mom and I don't agree on anything, except that star trek is great. More or less. We scrapbook together too, I guess. (Yes, my mom got me into scrap booking, it's kinda fun)

My dad and I don't agree on too much, but we kidna think alike. We're both somewhat scientifically minded.

Interesting question.

I'd say my Parents and I agree about 70% of the time. Most of the disagreement is between my dad and myself. He sees the world in a very black and white manner. I, on the other hand, have no idea how he's kept that outlook after 65 years of living, and I see many more shades and colours to most issues than my dad does. Somehow we nontheless agree on most things. I think my parents would be deeply concerned if I agreed with everything they said and did, and vice versa. They've always encouraged me to just be myself, which I appreciate very much.

Both my parents constantly vote for the conservatives. So the answer is "rarely".

My dad and I agree on most issues...in fact I don't recall any conversation where an issue came up where we did not agree.

My mom, on the other hand... :headbang:

We are almost complete opposites in most things. There is some overlap in a few of the moral issues, but not on much else.

We tend to agree on most things, but either me or my father will play Devil's Advocate because we like to argue with each other. It's a family thing all the men on my Dad's side do it.

I'd say about 50% really, mostly because my parents are complete opposits, and since their divorce they've drifted even further apart from each other, if that's possible.

I actually think that the way they brought me up has given me the ability to think for myself, so if we agree it's coincidental. I never had anything forced against me.

Well, except my dad's belt, but that's a different matter.

About 20-30%...and around 95-99% of that is where I agree with my dad. I've got into several arguments with my mum in the last year over political/religious/other issues, which is strange as since I've been at uni I've talked to her less and less when at home. It's now nearly all arguments.

I could probably list the few things I agree with my parents on.

Of course there is the obvious: murder is wrong, etc

My dad and I agree that the patriot act is bad and that Bush is an idiot. That's just about the only thing we agree on. Oh, and we both think sci fi is great.

My mom and I are both Christians, though I would say she has a much different idea as to what that means. I think its about loving God and your neighbor, while she seems to think its about being better then everyone else. She's getting better though.

"Do you think like your parents?"

I think more like my father than I do like either my mother or my step-mother. My mother is a far left liberal, so I'm told. She left my father and me right after I was born. My step-mother is a far right Christian fundamentalist.

My father has been dead for many years, but his logical pragmatic approach to things has been a guiding light for me my entire adult life.

Sometimes this is true:

"When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned." - Mark Twain
