I'm not particularly rabid about the Iraq war. Rabid about killing militant Islamic people, yes. Yes, the WMD was a false pretext - yes, it was a good idea to overthrow Saddam - no, they didn't plan for the subjugation of the Iraqi people in order to eliminate an insurgency - no, they should have subjugated Syria and Iran while they were at it - if they weren't prepared to do the whole Middle East, they shouldn't have started. Yes, it's a cluster-f right now - no, we're just not taking politically significant casualties (at least not American ones).

But, killing off militant Islamic people wherever they can be found is always a good idea. That's only because they want to kill all of us, given the chance.

I believe it had more to do with stirring the hornet's nest of militant Sunnis so they would be preoccupied there rather than here in the US.

I don't see how that would make much of a difference. The effects would be the same. Would you have accepted "we're going to war for oil" or "we're going to war to install a pro-American country", or even "we're going to war to free 25 million people from Hussein"?
