"call for the immediate withdrawal of coalition troops from iraq"
"favour a planned economy over a free market"
"say race no longer plays an issue in modern society"

Whose responsibility is it to get people out of poverty: those in poverty (the individuals themselves) or the government (with the help of Joe Taxpayer)?

When is it right to come to the aid of another country (as in, Iraq/Afghanistan)? What are the prerequisites?

Resolved: That the United Nations organization be replaced by a stronger organization.

Resolved: That the United States abolish the income tax.

Resolved: That the United States amend the Constitution to require a balanced budget except in cases of national emergency.

Resolved: That the Unites States place rescue and recovery operations after natural and man-made disasters under the jurisdiction of the military.

How are those? I'm sure I can come up with lots more, but that should give you some ideas at least.

BTW: I was on our college debating team. We won the national championship my senior year. :)

Have you considered debating the morality of hunting/ animal research etc. While they are obviously good things it is still good to debate them. What about abortion/cloning/stem cells? You can go on for hours on that debate.

I have never used the "RESOLVED" format except when the debate concerned UN or other administrative resolutions. Otherwise, whenever I have debated, it has been in the "WHETHER" format.

This site (http://www.sjr.mb.ca/debate/debres.htm) provides generic, issues based, and offbeat resolutions. You can use whatever you want from there.

Given JuNii's reply, I can believe it is.

In BPD, it's always 'This House would/believes...', which I honestly prefer.
