just a minute pretend time travel is possible. where would you attepmt to travel back to, and why?
would you take anything with you or change the course of history and what outcome do you think will come from it?

Messing with the timeline is a recipe for disaster.
I would probably go back and change things, but the problem is it would screw up where I am now, and I'm kinda of happy with where I am now. Of course, I often wonder "what if" about a few things.
I would do it provided that I had the return to "the real now" button provided.

18 March 1998. I would change a few things about my life. Not many, though, my life hasn't really been that bad. Just a few details that could have worked better in the long run.

I'd go back to the great depression with a book on inventions of the late 20th century so that I could "invent" them and with a list of companies from the 20s and 30s that are valuable today so I could invest in them.

I would go back to the Russian Revolution and kill Stalin
but.... it really depends on the kind of machine I'm traveling in. Is it like Terminator rules where you can go, but you can't come back? Or is it like Back To The Future rules where you can come and go all you want? Or is it like Timerider, which is just plain silly?

Just by traveling in time you create a bunch of paradoxes, and therefore you cause the universe to cease to exist. (just like pepsi)
You see, if you travel back in time, you alter the future which you traveled from. Inevitable, you would not use the time machine (at least not at the same time, from and to) in that future since you changed the course of events, and therefore you wouldn't change the course of events, and you would travel back in time to alter the same thinbg, and therefore you didn't travel there in the first place, and just... AAAAAAAAAARRRRRGHH!!!! :headbang:

Hey man, don't try to bring me down with all your "science" and stuff or I'll travel back in time and sell your pop some condoms.

i would probably take some of the latest millitary weapons such as guns grenades, nothing big like the atomic bomb, give them to different sides of major wars, return to present and study the effects they had, then if i didnt like it i would go back to when i first went back and stop myself from doing it.
ultimalty will let me see what life would be like if nazi germany won, or the romans empire never collapsed, or even if the south won, etc...
then can also be fun to watch the native americans sinking the ships of columbus before he even knew the new world existed. or watch the allies take normandy with little or no cassualties.

I was attempting to wipe out Monotheisim before it got too big a toe-hold but only ended up Nuking Sodom and Gomorrah (http://www.halexandria.org/dward194.htm) right on schedule. :headbang:

I would undo "Compulsory Nudity" for my nation. I've got a whole lot of clothes I'll never get to wear again
I wouldn't change anything, but there are some events I'd love to witness. Firstly, the moon landing (as in actually watch the guys jumping across its surface), secondly, the collapse of the Berlin Wall, though that's mainly just to enjoy the moment of reuniting, and thirdly, the 3 days between the crucifixion and supposed resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
Finally, I'd go back a few weeks and win the lottery. Several times. Under different pseudonyms.

I wouldn't.
I think the sum of what has happened so far in my life has led to where I am today. (which is a pretty good place.)
I would also worry about how my changes might affect others. I have no idea how far my "circle of influence" extends but I know that my actions affect others and without full disclosure of what changes would mean in the long run, I wouldn't dare mess with anything. ;)

i'd go back to the 60's and enjoy being a hippie for a bit :)
and i'd probably take back all my savings-worth of gold, set up a bank account in natwest in my dad's name (cos he was around back then... it'd be a bit weird if it were set up in my name 30 years before i was born lol), travel back to normal time, and enjoy 45 years plus of interest :P
perhaps work in convincing my parents to actually invest in microsoft like they were planning to in 1990...

I'd go back yesterday and fill different numbers on my lottery ticket :D
I would go back and by stocks in IBM, Dell, and other companies.
I would also go back and prevent the Murder of JFK. would be interesting to see what kind of world that would be.

All those millenia of evolution, and THAT'S the result? I think we've just disproven ID ;) :fluffle:
I would go back to my childhood and prevent myself from spending all that money on Pokemon cards. Plus I would have taught myself how to fight and trained myself, to be even more powerful than I am today. I wouldn't have gotten fat and had to work out to get looking halfway normal again. Bastard T.V. Then I'd go into the future, steal somethnig, come back and invent it.

If Star Trek and Back to the Future have taught us anything, it's that time travel never ever EVER works out the way you expect it to.
