Surgrical shows

Does anybody else enjoy watching these?

I dunno what it is, but I'm always facinated by shows where they actually show the surgeries going on. None of this crap like in medical shows where they focus on the actors while the patient is wide open, like the ones on TLC where they show the doctors cutting away a tumour or even doing plastic surgery or something...

Maybe it's just like "Hey, that's what we all look like on the inside!" or something.

Also, I wish more tv shows and movies would show the actual blood and guts in an acurate manner, rather than just for the blood and gore effect.

Shows where they show doctors preforming surgeries.

I saw one the other week where the doctors were removing a tumour from this one lady's abdomen. She was rather plump, as evidenced by the really thick layer of fat under her skin... but the doctors took a lot of it away because it was somewhat cancerous... but yeah, you could see intestines and everything.

Yeah, I tend to be a little morbid and enjoy things that are somewhat gruesome.

You know when I was in grade 5, I read the book of jurassic park because I heard there was a lot more blood and guts than the movie.

not that advanced, considering a large portion of it is just cutting bits out of people

Note the 'R' he put in surgical. I was referencing that.

I liked the show "anatomy for beginners", where they dissected people in order to show how various parts of the body worked, and what they were made of. hosted by Gunther Von Hagen (http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/ne/p/2004/body_guntherswim_400x400.jpg), who also performed the dissection, if I recall correctly, who I've never seen without that hat on.

It's not quite surgery, but it is gory and to do with cutting people up.

I do! :D

One of my favorites was a show I don't recall the name of, which documented a full day of what went on in different real ERs.

I've been lucky enough to have actually watched the famous Dr. Cooley (http://www.achievement.org/autodoc/page/coo0bio-1) operate. I only saw part of it from the observation room, but it was cool anyway.

When I lived up in Niigata, one of my pals was a neruo-oncological surgeon, One evening I walked in to the small neighborhood bar (3 booths) we used to hang out at. Dr. T was sitting at one booth watching something on TV, and everyone else was at the furthest booth away from him. I sat down and it turned out he was going over a video of that days operation (a brain turmor removal). The other regulars couldn't believe I was excited to get a personal guided tour of the video. :)

We watched three such shows in my high school anatomy and physiology class. One was knee replacement surgery, another was a removal of a brain lesion/tumor, and the last was a caesarean section. I've taken anatomy and human prosection (preparation/dissection of human cadaveric specimens) classes at the college level as well. (EDIT: I've wanted to see von Hagens' Body Worlds exibit for a long time. Last time it went by I missed it. :( )

I think they're pretty neat. I DID get told by my roomies at the time not to watch them while eating steak (I like my pretty bloody) though. It was a bit too much for them.

I enjoy shows like that. Never had a TV channel that shows them, but I've had to watch some in different classes. Orthopedic surgeries are brutal.

I also got actually see a liver transplant, which was incredibly awesome. I got into the OR because my advisor is an anesthesiologist, but I was so interested in the surgical side that the surgeon let me scrub in (so long as I was careful not to touch anything). Most awesome thing to watch ever.
