The Force - Psychic or Not?

I've wondered about this for a while...And, mind you, I don't know a lot about the Star Wars universe (Crazy, huh?).
Do you feel that "The Force" is a type of Psychic-Type mental power, something similar, or something completely different?

Meself, I think that the Force is fictional.
"It is the force which flows through, around, and in everything."

The force is depicted as coming from the universe at large. Psychic powers are depicted as coming from individual might. Crazy people pretend to have both.

The Force, rather than being a force, like gravity or electromagnetism, would probably be better characterized as a realization, an epiphany if you like. It is the realization of the interconnectivity of all things, life.
Consider one's life as a drop of water in a vast ocean. Where does one's life end and the rest of the ocean begin? In more real life terms, is one's life restricted to a body? What about one's home, school or work, family and friends? It would be difficult to call it a life without these things. For that matter, what about the surrounding environment?
These are the kinds of things that Lucas was alluding to with "The Force".

I think it's more like the Force grants the user psychic powers, because the Force also affects reflexes.

The force is simply an energy field, that can be manipulated by those who know how.
"Life creates it. It surrounds us, binds us, Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter."

Heathen! The Force is non existant in you me thinks!
Well the Force is every where. I think it was supposed to be a kind of psychic ability that some could channel into.

No...those are sub-celluar structures wich helps us hear the force.
Also...I choose to believe I never saw that particular part of that movie.

No, after episode 3 there was very little doubt that the midichlorians are in fact the force. The emperor speaks of being so powerful he can manipulate the midichlorians into creating life. The Force is clearly the manipulation of midichlorians.

It doesnt matter what you believe. Star Wars is George Lucas' world and he decided that in his world it is midichlorians that make up the force.

The force is based entirely upon the Taoist concept of Qi (Chi). Look it up, it's not psychic power, it's energy, Like the type in Dragon Ball Z but not actually visible.

Youre quite mistaken.
Cellular structures.
Palpatine was hinted he could manilutate [ithose particular structures[/i]
into creating life itself.
The force is not comprised of them, they merely allow contact, if you will.

It's at least as closely related to the concept of Odic Force as it is to Qi.

Yes the worst thing that ever happed was an attempt to explain the ofrce. Why? It was never needed before, or is it to drop the level of the films to a new low? Does everything in every film have to be explained?

The Force - Psychic or Not?
It's not Psychic - it's just "Force."
Bluntly, "the Force" is just "method" times "attitude:"
F=ma
Simple; but, note: this is considering "the Force" as a unified whole discarding the dichotomy of light -vs- dark.
The force is an actual substance composed of midichlorians.
I wondered about that. As your midichlorian count determines how strong you are in the Force shouldn't Anakin's powers have dropped dramatically as Obi cut him in half? ;)

It's magic.
The only forces are
Electro-magnetic
Fusion
Fission
Kinetic?
You decide which one the force falls under. I'm pretty sure my list is messed up so you science majors help me out here.

I agree, and it's most puzzling, since Lucas started off with a rather strong story based on an understanding of myth. Or so we thought; perhaps he didn't understand the purpose of myth as well as he seemed to, and was simply inspired by the mythic elements.

Well, first of all, Palpatine was lying about being able to create life. Wasn't that obvious when you were watching the film?
Second, the Force is entirely a product of George Lucas' imagination. That may make it "psychic" by some definition. But it does not guarantee that it's consistent with anything, including itself. Debating the properties of something imaginary is an extraordinarily method in time-wasting.

{snip}
The four, most fundemental, known are:
1) Electro-magnetic, as stated.
2) The "strong" nuclear force.
3) The "weak" nuclear force.
4) Gravity.
If you've ever sat thru. a basic science class, at a certain age, with a certain gorgeous student sitting nearby, you'll be certain that there is one more fundemental force. But; I digress ...
