The Boss - MGS3 (Mostly because of Snake's dealings with the revelation of her death.)
Teta - Final Fantasy Tactics - Again because of Delita's reaction towards her death. Its just so... dramatic.
Solidus Snake - Best death scene since Ceasar.
Sidney Lassarot, Melrose - Vagrant Story
Aeris - Yes. I saw it coming to. Again because of Cloud's reaction. I love it when shit is about to hit the fan due to tragety.
There is more, but goddamnit it's been a while.
The girl who gets sprouted in Grim Fandango, I don't recall her name. But she turns into flowers and floats away after a little speech, I thought it was good. Oh and Maxamino in the same game, his bones get grinded (they're all skeletons in Grim Fandango, the land of the dead) between a ship's big spinny thing.

Silent Wolf - MGS. Thought it was quite a touching final scene bringing to light some of the atrocities the Kurds have suffered as a people.
E.E. - MS2. Also quite a sad scene from the series, very heart-felt.
Therese/Jeanette Voerman - Just for being original and bizarre.

The cyborg Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid 2. The scene where he gets crushed by Metal Gear was both strangley amusing and touching.
His last words:
"We're not tools of the government or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing I was good at, but at least I always fought for what I believed in."
Therese/Jeanette Voerman - Just for being original and bizarre.
I dunno. I think LaCroix had more... style... getting blown to pieces by a coffin and everything.
Also,
Valter - Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stone does a very good job at making you truly hate this guy, so when you finally get to run him through it's very satisfying indeed.
Limstella - "I am not human. This body and this heart are but constructs. Yes, as is this sorrow."
Guybrush Threepwood - The man who manages to die twice in a single game.

That was actually Grey Fox in the first Metal Gear Solid.
Unless Liquid does come back in the second game as a cyborg and dies in the exact same way Grey Fox did, while uttering the exact same line.

Marcie the robot in Mystic Quest/Final Fantasy Adventure (on the Gameboy) - later remade as "Sword of Mana" on the GBA. You're at the top of this collapsing tower and Marcie tells the hero that he'll throw him to safety then jump across after him. He throws the hero then proclaims "Marcie cannot jump", and falls down with the collapsing tower.

Guybrush Threepwood in the Secret of Monkey Island.
For most of the game he cannot die, but there's one point when he's tied to an idol and thrown into the harbor water. He remarkably can hold his breath for 10 minutes (he makes a point of emphasizing this earlier in the game), so you have a long time to just pick up that idol, walk to the nearby ladder, and climb back up to the docks. Otherwise, he floats and your options change from things like "Walk To", "Pick Up", and "Open" to "Bob", "Rot", and "Order Hint Book".
There is a point in Monkey Island 2 where Guybrush can die if you wait long enough in an elaborate death trap, but, since that sequence is presented in the form of a flashback story, the person he's telling the story to calls him a liar and you start again at the beginning of the trap.

The best video game death is the very end of Final Fantasy Tactics. Very shocking even though afterwards I was surprised I didn't see it coming, and it was certainly one you don't easily forget.

worms armagedon + holy handgernade = best death scenes ever.
I don't know if anyone remembers the old PC game "Out of This World". There were literally hundreds of ways to die and each one had its own 10-second animation showing you getting devoured/poisoned/impaled/blown to bits. The programmer must have spent half their time on those animations.

In terms of sheer coolness, any death of an "enemy" in Gunstar Heroes.
Best. Explosions. EVER. :D
But in terms of a death being a plot device, I would say the deaths of Fenix and General Duke in Starcraft

For funniest death ever, I'd say Fenix. He's standing there with all the confidence in the world with his wrist blades staring down a Hydralisk. Then his blades shut off and his facial expression looks like he just crapped himself. I love it. :p

In Jak III when Damius (not sure if that's his name, he's the King of the Wastelanders or whatever) dies.
First time I got to that part i nearly pissed my pants cause I though Jak died (I nearly pissed my pants again at the end of the game)
It's so heroic in my opinion, and one of hte best deaths in a videogame I have ever seen.
Another good one is the death of Doomhammer, in WarCraft III Reign of Chaos.
Very heroic again.
And from the StarCraft series (Yeah I'm a fan of the Blizzard games, StarCraft series, Diable II series, and WarCraft III)
When on the intro to Brood War that Marine is in the trenchline looking up as the battlecruiser leaves, then the camera zooms out and you see all these Zerglings coming to kill him.
Also, when the General in charge of the UED forces commits suicide. He sits there and reads his suicide note, then you hear the gunblast. Always liked that death.
Forgot the death of Tassadar, when he sacrifices himself to kill the Overmind.

In Deus Ex, the cut-scene you get when you say either Anna or Herman's "killphrases".
For those who don't know. Anna and Herman were mechanically-augmented cyborgs and when their killphrase is spoken you get a neat cutscene where they explode in slow motion in full gory detail.

Jon Irenicus', Khalid's, and Yoshimo's death in BG2. Irenicus ranks as one of the best baddies ever in gaming history, so to see him at the end in Hades, without his magical mojo, was just priceless.
