Questions from a new Firefox convert...

Like the title says, I just recently made the switch to Firefox, and I find it quite superior to IE. The learning curve wasn't bad at all, though I do have a few nagging questions (hence this thread):

How do you keep logged in on a site? For example, after I exit out of Firefox after surfing NS and the Jolt forums ("remember me" option checked on both log-ins), then return to it a short time later, neither of the log-ins remembers me. My cookies are set to "keep until they expire," and the auto-login cookies would remain between sessions in IE, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

My other question is, what extensions do you use with Firefox? Which ones should every Firefox user have; which ones can't you live without? I've already got FoxyTunes, IE View, and TabX.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Get adblock. Never have to view Jolt's ads again!

I also have the weather extension, and the bbcode, which is great for the forums. :)

I'm not sure about the login issues, I haven't had any problems with it.

Well, when you log-in, you should get the option to save all information from the site. Just click Yes, and it should keep it all.

There are exceptions, but not many.

Love it and very seldom use IE except on the sites Firefox doesn't work with, and there are a few. I never had a log on problem. You might try reinstalling it to see if that cures the problem.

I have the same cookie problem with jolt and NS and have at least found a solution for NS. Just go into your nation's settings, make sure the "Autologin" box is checked and then update your settings. This works for me in that NS remembers me until I manually delete the cookie.

Jolt is flaky. It can "remember" me for the longest time and then all of a sudden "forget" me for no reason. Sometimes it keeps forgetting me all the time, and then remembers me and does so for a while and then forgets me again. I see no sense to it, so I think it's a Jolt problem. :\

When it comes to extensions, I have a few I like:

Linkification (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=190) - It makes plain text urls into links, for those times when the author just didn't bother to do so himself.

Bugmenot (http://roachfiend.com/archives/category/extensions/) - Gives right click access to the bugmenot.com archive of public logins to those "free, but you have to register" sites like the nytimes. Let's you just right click a password field, choose "bugmenot" and logs you in automatically.

BBCode (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Editing%20and%20Forms&numpg=10&id=128)- Gives right click access to common BBcode, HTML and XHTML (plus a few other goodies) commands. Invaluable on a forum such as this, it makes editing your posts and making them look nice a breeze. (Used to make all the links in this post.)

Spellbound (http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/) - A spell checker. Just right click, choose "Check spelling" and it does. (I used it on this post - I use it on practically all my posts. I hope it shows.)

Adblock plus (http://bene.sitesled.com/adblock.htm) - Blocks ads on sites. You can make your own filters or download them off the web.

CuteMenus (http://cute.mozdev.org/) - Adds small icons to Firefox menus. It's not just eye candy, it makes navigating the menus a lot easier.

I use Tab Mix, Gmail Notifier, Cute Menus-Crystal, Image Zoom, gTranslate, Tweak Network, Spellbound and All-in-One Gestures. I've tried FoxyTunes without much success.

Of the extentions I listed I think you should definately install Tab Mix, All-in-One Guestures and Image Zoom. If you have Gmail I recommend Gmail Notifier (If you want gmail telegram me for an invite).
