Perhaps one of the Republicans could explain...

...why the American right traditionally refers to Jimmy Carter as "the Peanut Farmer"? Surely by the same lights, Bush is "the Cokehead"? What's so bad about owning a peanut farm, in any case?

I dunno. Maybe peanut farming is bad because it's not as profitable as coca leaf farming.

Jimmy Carter: Peanut Farmer

Shortly after Jimmy Carter assumed presidential office, he was given a briefing on the so-called nuclear football - an impenetrable titanium briefcase containing launch codes and emergency plans for retaliatory action in the event of a nuclear war, complete with a security wristle, worn 24 hours a day by a sentry armed with an M9 Beretta 9 mm pistol and a license to kill anyone crazy enough to try to steal it.

To the consternation of the Pentagon, Carter showed little interest in the football, refusing to allow its carrier onto his peanut farm in Plains, Georgia and forcing him to bed down ten miles away. Carter also caused a minor panic when it was learned that he had left his authenticator ID in the pocket of a suit - which had been sent to the dry cleaners.

[Ronald Reagan lost his ID, too; after he was shot, it disappeared into an FBI evidence bag along with his pants... Oddly, few presidents have shown much interest in the Presidential Emergency Satchel. Kennedy, for example, never considered reaching for it even during the Cuban missile crisis. Gerald Ford once flew off to Paris for a summit and left his ballcarrier aboard Air Force One. And, after LBJ took office, Bill Gulley, director of the White House Military Office, was shocked to learn that no one had updated the authenticator codes for six months. The missing documents were found in the White House basement.]

Carter, Jimmy [born James Earl, Jr.] (1924- ) American politician, governor of Georgia (1970-1974), 39th president of the United States (1977-1981) [noted for his role in negotiating the Panama Canal treaties (1978) and the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt (1979); and for attempts to institute social reforms and energy-conservation measures during the recession which plagued the latter portion of his presidency]

Because the price of peanut butter quadrupled under Carter or something, and he was always doing favors for the peanut industry.

I don't think Bush has helped out the coke industry as much. (I dunno though, it's been over a decade since I actually took any drugs, so I could be wrong).

Bush is not a cokehead. He may have done some unwise things in his youth, but he is a good man.

Jimmy Carter is called "Peanut Farmer" because that is what he was before going into politics. And he was better at it than being president.

Nothing but as Kate Moss says Coke is so much more fun.

Remember America is where any one can get elected to the office of the President of the United States.

In your original post you were either trying to be funny - in which case you succeeded. Or you were being sincere - in which case I laugh at you naivity! (Sorry if it's the latter, don't mean to be rude, just couldn't help laughing.)

Lots of people are allergic to cocaine, maybe even everybody: every time I've taken the stuff it's made my nose bleed. Clearly an allergic reaction.
