Is the Great NS General in One Sentence Sentence Complete?
From the concerted efforts here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=9690544#post9690544
Mods have iLocked the "Vote in my Poll about 21 reasons why Evolutionists believe that Flames that result from Athiests theorising that Fascist, Gun-wielding, Chickenhawk Christians are to blame for Anti-American, Leftist, Heathen, European Child Porn in Racist, Neocon, anti-war and ID legislation cause Global Warming, Katrina and the acendency of Objectivist Politics in Classical Liberalisim when discussing why flooded New Orleans Busses couldn't have been used to take hot, pot-smoking unwed pregnant women (56k warning!) to abortion clinics" thread for flame-baiting, spam, trolling, and smiley abuse.
Is it complete?
Yes, No (additions please) or Bulwar-Lytton?

What's your point? Generalites discuss these issues? Every debate forum in the world is the same. Is this meant to be funny? Because it doesn't incorporate any jokes, which are a staple of General discussion.

No, but it's close. All it needs to do now is make sense. I prefer my idea of NS General in one sentence:
Mods ban all that is fun or intelligent.
(To the mods: the :D shows my tone. Keep it in mind, please?)

No, I don't have any problem with being serious, because there are no jokes in the original post. Plus, I don't understand the point. OF COURSE all these topics are discussed - wouldn't it be worrying if they weren't?
You may want to remove Katrina & NO references: everything else is always around, whilst these are only temporary Generalite obsessions.

So...what exactly is a joke, in your estimation? Are jokes the only things that are funny?

Ok, how about:

That should just about cover it.... and it includes Fass! ;)

Well, I don't want to hijack this thread with 'Badgers in Dresses: A Psychoanalytical Appraisal of Gruenberg's Sense Of Humour', but I just don't find this funny because it's not really saying anything. 'Generalites discuss these issues a lot.' Yes. 'It is funny that Generalites discuss these issues a lot.' Yes. 'It is funny that I have noticed that Generalites discuss these issues a lot.' ...No
I read the thread, and clearly some work went into it. Also, I'm not really known in General, so my opinion hits a bit under weight. Nonetheless, I think there are better ways to parody General, and I would take the 'about right' posts in this thread as an indication that Generalites are aware of what they talk about, and perhaps wondering why it is worth comment, at least in this manner.

Also, and I know I'm to blame for this, you should get rid of '21'. That fad's died - 10 is probably more common.

Seems to me that that was actually the theme of Seinfeld... a show that says nothing in particular, but does it with a lot of words.
'Generalites discuss these issues a lot.' Yes. 'It is funny that Generalites discuss these issues a lot.' Yes. 'It is funny that I have noticed that Generalites discuss these issues a lot.' ...NoBut the juxtaposition of such divergent themes in a single sentence can be funny... Think Monty Python. "We are an anarcho-syndicatist collective that takes it in turns...."

I sentence thee to 24 hours of 1970s British Comedy. You obviously need it. ;)

I posted 21 things that pissed me off about America. The Americans responded. There was little of interest, actually, and as it's gone, '21' has lost its relevance.

Ok, well, apparently we ARE going to do this.
Seinfeld's jokes are, in general, reflections of the characters, or based around the idea he introduces in his opening monologue. I think very often they DO say something. They don't merely report what happens, admittedly with some exaggeration. I never [heathen alert] found Seinfeld the funniest, anyway...
You're right: juxtaposition can be funny. On this occasion, to me, it's not. Perhaps it's because I already knew the joke you mentioned, although I wasn't thinking of it at the time.
Anyway, look, this shouldn't really be anything. I was simply saying I didn't find it funny - and believe me, read ANY of my jokes, and you'll experience the same sensation - and didn't really see the point, but that was it. I think I should butt out, and let those who want to positively contribute do so.
Finally, which programmes do you recommend? Aside from Python.

He said 1970s. And I've watched all the ones you mentioned - seen all the episodes, except for Red Dwarf, where I missed a couple of series.

Ah, the first two are classics. I've never heard of the last one though.
Anyway, I think it's time for me to leave: sorry I derailed this thread. I stand by my original criticisms. If that makes me no fun, well, so be it.

I'm curious what does Bulwar-Lytton mean  I just voted that way becaused it sounded funny. But yes, many in the forums lack the ability to spell (me included) but that's because we don't have any spell-check on this damn thing. :headbang:

The Bulwar Lytton (he of "It was a Dark and Stormy Night - suddenly a shot rang out...") contest is an international contest to write the worst opening sentence possible. It has slowly mutated (in the public lexicon) to mean the worst possible, gramatically correct, long sentence.
Some minor changes:
