High School Reunion
Yup. 10 years. Tomorrow. It's going to be weird!
You date yourself.
Only when my husband is gone.:)
I've never tried to hide my age. I'm 27 BTW.
And I'm wondering if any of the old social patterns will creep in...
Only when my husband is gone.:)
Only then? Don't deny him what you grant yourself.

I sort of did the math already.
I sort of did the math already.
Yeah, but you might have been off a year or two...what if I failed a couple of grades? Or if I was so damn smart I did High School in six months? Huh? Huh smarty Swede pants?

I had sort of picked it up already in other threads. Huh, huh, forgetful Canadian hat?

Oh. I thought you were just pointing it out based on the 10 year thing. Hat. Now that's funny!
Do they have these sorts of reuninions where you live, Fass? My husband thinks it's damn weird.

Don't mean to interrupt you... just felt like adding that i've never had a high school reunion... would be interesting though...

Not an interuption...Fass was just the only one posting besides me:)
Did you miss yours...or is one coming up? I didn't think we were even going to have one, but finally someone organised it. It's not really going to be much...we're going out for dinner and then to a smalltown bar...but at least most of us will be coming, and that's all I care about!

My 10 year was really weird and awkward. It was fascinating to see how people changed, though. This short little guy who, back in the day, was a conservative , straight-laced Republican debater (and who generally kicked my ass at Lincoln-Douglas debates...little bastard) had come roaring out of the closet and brought his life-partner which he kept calling his "husbear".
Basically, though, I decided I had very little in common with these people back then or now.

I couldn't think of anything but a Canadian mountie hat. Canada lacks distinctive clothing.

They're not awfully common, no. The younger generations have been influenced from what they've seen abroad and on foreign television and some people arrange them, but I must say I don't know anyone who's ever been to one. Some people in my upper secondary school (we call them "gymnasium") class talked about it, but four years on, it doesn't look like anybody will arrange it (not that I've kept in touch). The school most certainly won't.

No, we never had one... for the same reason it took you so long to organise one ;). But I still have some time left, It's only been 6 (*gasp*) years for me.
Since I moved away from where I went to school during the last week of finals, I haven't seen my classmates a lot (read: at all) ever since.
So far, only one person has 'come out' from my graduating class. Six have died (all of cancer...and all lived in the same area...environmental pollution anyone?). I'm interested to see who's settled down, who's turned into a party animal, who has kids, what my old boyfriend looks like now, if the chicks I used to fist fight with still want to bring it on 10 years later...people tell me the change isn't really that great at 10 years...it's the 25 year reunion that is nuts. I don't know about that. I think this is going to be insane.

Well, it wasn't really meant to be Swede pants (I don't even know what those would look like...are they different from regular pants), but smarty pants needed a bit more oomph, so the Swede got put into them:). And we do TOO have distinctive clothing! Lumberjack plaid, suspenders and a toque, or deerskin and beads:).

Yeah, it usually has to be someone from the graduating class. I was a bit bummed because they usually happen in May and we hadn't heard anything, so I thought it just wasn't going to happen. But here it is!

I only kept in touch with one person on a regular basis...I've seen a couple more every few years or so, but mostly I have no idea what these people have done the past 10 years. I can't believe it's been that long already!

I honestly can't even imagine what a reunion would be like. Not just because I've gradually moved further and further away from where I went to high school, but also because I'm pretty sure most of my former classmates haven't. ... it'd be... akward at the very least...

I generally won back then...but I've sworn off violence since. And I doubt they're still in that onda (sorry...don't know an English equivalent to that). I always say...I've given birth twice. A fist fight is child's play to that!

You are joking right?
10 people have died of cancer!?
Perhaps they were smokers or lived with...
HA HA HA! I LOVED my reunion, even though I hated high school. If was fun because all the jocks were starting to become paunchy and balding. Most of the cheerleaders were fat, and a couple of the really popular girls in my class showed up and it was so obvious they were high on something you almost felt sorry for them when you weren't laughing at them. There was a couple of 'high school sweetheart' couples that were actually still together and while annoying back then were really cute in the present and one of the really geeky guys I was friends with was still geeky, but doing really well and I was so happy for him.
I was known as a huge feminist biatch when I was still in school and I think people thought I'd become part of a lesbian terrorist group or something, so I think it was fairly shocking for them that my 10 year prediction for myself came true, (that I'd be married with 2.5 kids and a station wagon)even though I'd written it sarcastically at the time. Although AlphaGeek made it really funny by writing 'Lea's husband' on his name tag, and not his name.
I got to get back in touch with an old Cross Country teammate that I'd lost track of, and later went to her wedding. Same for an old weight lifting partner of mine. Her bachelorette party was one of the only times I've ever gone out with that big a group of girls - 17 of us in all and it was a blast. There was a lot of drinking involved, so I don't remember much except that I kept getting spanked a lot that night by various people...
Anyway, that's the story of my reunion, Sin, have fun at yours!
