n00bs?
I hate the term, yes. Because, to be honest, at one point we all had to start somewhere. But there is a fine line between the "newbies", who are willing to learn, and the "n00bs" who just go about spewing crap like they own the world.
I've seen it in clubs, I've seen it in online games, and yes, I've seen it here. People with 10 or 20 posts running thier mouths off and insulting someone with THOUSANDS, as if they run the show.
I have a message to anyone who starts in a new group: the way you get in and succeed is to be humble, open-minded, friendly, and willing to learn, NOT by barging in and acting like you're the greatest thing since Jesus Christ. You show respect to us, and you'll get respect in turn.
End Rant. Thank you for your time.

Though I'm newbie I guess, considering my post count measures at 186 for my 7-8 months here...
Anyway, we did happen to have a lot of new "n00bs", not newbies, last week and the beginning of this one...

It's the quality, not the quantity of posts in my opinion. And seniority also has a role in it.

And I'm good at it
Even though my post count is 400 and something...if you add all of my post counts from different countries together... it's way over 3000..
Plus I can't spell and I always have no idea what I'm talking about..

A high post count is not a status symbol
It does not afford you any respect
Nor does it make anything you post better in any way
In fact it's usually spammers that have a very high post count
Nor is having a low post count a bad thing
Your post count means NOTHING

I was merely placing the correlation between a someone without experience insulting one with experience.
And you're right, there are many spammers.
Still, no need to get upset.
Although I am a newbie here, I've hated n00bs ever since I began online playing. They believe they are the greatest and challenge all the veteran players. When they lose, they claim you hacked or cheated in some way. Absolutely despise them. *shivers*
I am new here, but I've been around forums for a while and know how to conduct myself: keep an open mind and don't be cocky.
Post counts:
Means nothing to me. You don't have alot, then you're either new or don't talk much. Lots usually means you're talkative. I don't mind either.

Sorry Bolol,
Be HUMBLE????
Why?
Just because someone is new doesn't mean that they should crawl around belly down on the floor to others who have more posts than they do....
There are some posters here who have totted up thousands of posts on General and I have never seen them roleplay yet!
There are some players who have thousands of posts who I personally would not go within a million miles of when it comes to their way of playing, yet I have had some very interesting and enjoyable play with new players.
To be honest, the one trouble with this system is that it shows how many posts people have made, it shouldn't make any difference in how well anyone can play or not.
I very rarely look at it when interacting with people, it is, in my mind, elitist rubbish.
Lets face it, an arsehole is an arsehole no matter what number he has stamped by his name......

a) the term is respectful, not humble. asking for someone to be humble is not rational.
b)let me note that most "veterans" don't set an example on the friendly thing. *hint*. which is not to say that not everyone should try. i try. but let's not say it's only the newbies who are unfriendly.
c) i've been the greatest even before JC :p
d) i think us newbies should strive to show everyone respect, not just "you" as in you veterans. and i think the verterans would do well treating n00bs respectfully as well.
all of this not aiming at anyone in particular. just random thoughts accumulated through the time on NS-general (and yes i've bben around a bit longer than my joining date suggest -> two nations)
What?! Not even redeemable at the gift shop?
nope.thats the worst thing.

I wasn't suggesting that they "crawl around belly down", only that they be willing to learn. If I put that the wrong way then I appologize.

I tend to agree with you. I wasn't suggesting that post count = respect. I was only trying to make the correlation between experience and innexperience. Believe me I've met people with high post counts that are, in fact, the most annoying people on earth.
Just kinda' condescending.
Again, I didn't mean to put it across like that. I appologize if I did.

Just kinda' condescending.
The way I see it, you may really only consider taking offense if you think it may apply to you.
Early on in my career, I made a grave mistake -- though I am a very serious Catholic, I got involved in a Christian argument where BOTH sides seemed to be against me -- I was arguing pro-God but against evangelical whackjobs. I finally heard it from one of the more experienced posters, though I don't remember who (sadly enough.....only 100 posts are stored in the search function), that though I was well-thought and considered things I said before I posted, and frequently edited as I noticed things that should be clarified, people will look more at the post count originally and say "Freakin n00b is mouthing off", even though I was simply trying to defend my own beliefs.
As long as you stay respectful while doing it -- they'll like you.
I mean, I'm averaging only about 150 posts a month.....petty change for some of these kids. But a good many of them, I've gotten used to their style and can more comfortably debate with them. Once they get that way with the new kids, it's all okay.
Until then.....try to keep under the radar if you're going to be rude ;)
@Nietzsche Heretics
You've misused the term.
As defined by Opflash.org Forums:
newbie (n)- A person who is new at something and willing to admit when at fault.
n00b (n)- Some little arsehole who refuses to admit defeat and thinks of themself as the world's greatest. See Also: Dic*head, Dic*weed, etc.
Don't blame me! I didn't make it up!
By god, are you serious? Is that actually what is says?
a) the term is respectful, not humble. asking for someone to be humble is not rational.
Agreed. Makes more sense. I probably should've worded it better.
b)let me note that most "veterans" don't set an example on the friendly thing. *hint*. which is not to say that not everyone should try. i try. but let's not say it's only the n00bs who are unfriendly.
Again, true. Many asshats in the world eh?

d) i think us n00bs should strive to show everyone respect, not just "you" as in you veterans. and i think the verterans would do well treating n00bs respectfully as well.
I'm not a veteran my man. And I was refering to "us" as everyone who has come before.
Hope I cleared a few things up.

if you know the difference between "n00bs" and "newbies" then what are u complaining about? You seem to dislike n00bs like any other person who is either a vet. or a newbie trying to learn the game. Alot of people also just say "noobs" because they are lazy and choose not to take the time to type the extra two letters and different arrangement; also another term for newbie is newblit i preferr this term simply because it is cuter^^.

The term "n00b" is actually a misunderstood one, twisted from the original meaning. Now, it's supposed to apply to any new person, but that's not what it really means.
A newb, or newbie, is a person who is new to a game. They lack sufficient skills, and are easily distinguished by this. They have potential to become a good player.
A n00b, on the other hand, is someone who has played the game for a long amount of time, and still lacks sufficient skills to garner true success. They are the "unteachables", and are as such shunned and mocked.

Don't you also find it ironic how whenever you beat down one of these "n00bs", they automaticaly call you a "n00b".
Question: How can you be a "n00b" if you just won a fair match? And any self-respecting gamer doesn't use hacks. (I use mods every so often, but that's all in good fun. :D)

well actually generally other people compiled the lists, then a mod stickies it.... sometimes the compiler becomes a mod soon after :-)

Post count does not always reflect someone's experience in a forum. There are a lot of people who start new nations and therefore have a deceptively low count (such as yours truly). They act like old timers because they actually are.
