Bleaching your teeth.
So I got this kit from my dentist...Night White...and he said there'd be a bit of sensitivity, but it would fade...and instead it's friggin' agony! AGONY! I had the tray in last night and woke up with this terrible twinging...and now my teeth feel like raw, exposed yucky twingy terrible things.:( I think I'm just going to give up on the whole 'white teeth' thing...it's too damn painful!!!

I used some other stuff for a while that wasn't bleach based - it did the job fairly well and I got no pain from the experience. However, the gel stuff provided tasted very bad if it got on your tongue for too long.

Gah! Sounds horrific. Amazing the prices we pay for a little vanity. :(
I suggest letting your teeth do their own thing provided they're healthy. Nature gives us wonderful character.

Dont you know doctorspeak by now?
You never had a doctor tell you you'd feel a "little pressure" as he stiched your eye back in?

I feel your pain.
I'm in the same boat, but my dentist gave my desensitizing toothpaste to use. I brush with in normally, and then also before and after I use the trays.
That and I take a tranqualizer. (seriously)

I think i'd rather it in than out, despite any pain involved. :p

I totally agree. I'm just saying that, over the years, I've learned the hard way-when a doctor admits you'll "feel pressure" or "discomfort", its usually going to hurt alot.

Of course.
You know it's going to be *really* bad when you get the "You won't feel a thing..."

I just got back from the dentist...I went and whined...he gave me a desensitising rince and told me to skip a day. It's actually not all that bad...I tried those Crest Whitestrips last year...they were terrible! Very inconvenient. I slept fine with the trays in. And I've used them only one night and seen a major difference already. I figure four days tops should be all I need to do it for...plus I have enough of the gel (it's not actually bleach based folks...and it doesn't hurt the enamel) to do touch ups for the next six years if it lasts that long!
It's just one little vanity that always bothered me, and I'm willing to go through some minor pain for a few days I guess. Plus it gave me a reason to stop drinking coffee, which is good in and of itself!

I wanna laugh, but remembering having a through-and through cut on my lower lip where my teeth met the steering wheel through my lip. My lip was split vertically down the middle and there was a hanging flap to the side of my jaw. A really sick looking smile.
The ER doctor cleaned it as well as she could then proceded to give me novacaine or whatever-injections- one shot squirt through the wound, and hit the back of my tongue and throat. Which were then perfectly, but needlessly, numb. She told me I wouldnt feel a thing.
She then proceed to stich the outside and inside of the wound back. I didnt flintch or make a sound, but my eyes did water and I did leave finger prints in the gurney's frame.

I actually winced in pain at that image. :/
Well I was hit by a minivan when I was 15, riding a bike to a friend's house. I was okay except for a wrenched elbow, and my knee looked like a bruised apple after I hit the gravel. They tried to give me an injection to numb the area before picking out the gravel and stitching me up...but there were too many holes and the liquid just squirted out.
Why are we exchanging battle tales? :D

that happened to me, to a lesser degree. Got a hair removal cream which was supposed to be "totally painless" both on the box and according to a friends recommendation.
It turned my skin red for day, AND had no effect whatsoever. Stoopid cream.

I can't use that hair removal stuff either...Nair or Neet or whatever...gives me a terrible rash. I prefer second degree razor burns to that!

Ouch. I once fell off a motorbike (while cross-country). However, I hit a sand dune, and my only injury was a small graze on my chin. I guess i'm just lucky. :D

I think after that, what burned me the most was the price. £15! For a rash!
Couldn't moisturise it, couldn't shave it, because all it done was made it burn again. Now it just sits in the kitchen mocking me.
Though, I suppose they blundered a little bit when there was absolutely no instructions on how much to apply.

You know...if you want to be bald...shaving is just a better way to do it:).

Take heart in the fact that many middle-aged men with mid-life-crises are lamenting this very same problem right now. Of course, the product may have been somewhat different, but still.

Sounds like you have stripped off the enamel. Ouch. I used some stuff a few years back, gel consitancy with a mouthpiece thing, it was so strong that I had little white spots on my gums from where some of it had ooozed up after it had gotten warm. The little spots faded within an hour but my teeth hurt. I threw that stuff away and had to get some sensitivity tooth paste to help with the pain.

After you get the desired color you're looking for, I'd recommend using Mentadent Whitening Toothpaste. When I regularly used that, dentists couldn't even tell I was a smoker(coffee stains might be a different story though). Money got tight and I started using regular flouride toothpastes and now I'm wanting some whitening done.

No. The enamel is quite fine. I looked into this a LOT before I did it...I didn't just take the word of the dentist that it was safe. But my teeth are normally sensitive...this just aggravates it.
It's been a couple of hours now, and already the sensitivity is fading.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
