A decision I should have made awhile ago.

I have decided that I will no longer be posting on topics of a political/ religious nature. Why? Quite simply, I've been skating to close to flaming, and sometimes crossing over it. This is a matter of self-preservation. I'd rather not get forum banned. Note that with a few exceptions where I really did jump to the wrong conclusion, I'm not apologizing for anything I said. In most cases, if I said something that offended someone, chances are I meant to be offensive. That's why I have to stop. My blood pressure can't take being upset all the time. From now on, I'll stick to RP and threads of a humorous or at least non-controversial nature.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!

Well, it's not that hard to restrain yourself from flaming when you ram into an opinion opposite to yours. Think of it as training for life.

Half the fun is seeing how close you can tow the line without getting into trouble.

iQuote. Why do you think I debate so much?! ;) Besides, I like being proved right.

Instead of dancing on the line, why don't we just move it? You know, drag the line a bit to the right, then to the left, then in nine other directions, and *snap!* no more line! hehe ^_^

That's the part that always sucks.

I know, can't they bestow modship on someone that actually deserves it, like Commando3?

Note- I am not a moderator. This is not a statement of official board policy, only a proper defense for when The Authority is enforcing a rule when they believe they shouldn't have to.

This brings to mind a serious question- is it really "indoctrination/flaming" if it's just a plain statement of fact?

On another message board, there's the "post, not poster" rule- such as you can call an opinion drooling idiocy iff there's a long list of well-cited facts explaining that they're baselessly wrong & they continue to hold their opinion, but the person who expresses said opinion can never be called a drooling idiot. Or, you can say that someone knowingly lied, but not that they are a bald-faced liar/willfully ignorant.

In other words, if a potential flame is clearly & unavoidably truth to all involved, you can apply it to their posts, but never to the people who said it. It's pretty much the same thing, but a often acceptable loophole.

I agree with your comment regarding "training for life", I hope some take that to heart. I try not to say anything I wouldn't say in person. It takes some of the heat from debate, but for some, I suppose, some of the fun.

It seems the most reasonable way to express myself, more consistent with my usual fashion of relating to people. How would this forum work if people acted in normal, real-life character?
