I personally believe that Harper is some rightist monster that Canadians are afraid to vote for. Harper is like Bush, he has an extreme right-wing agenda ready to eat people if he got elected. He oppose gay marriage (and stuff right-wing religious elements in our society), pushed for private healtcare (for a few rich people to benefit), wanted to throw our troops to Iraq (so Canada is even more vulnerable to terrorists), closer relations to the US (in hopes that Canada to become the 51st state), probably cuts funding to things such as social programs (so that the jobless rate goes even higher). Also, it's not just the Liberals and the NDP hated Harper. Some conservatives want to get rid of Harper cause of his leadership. Imagine how Harper treated his member so bad that he's gonna do the same to the rest of Canada if he was PM. Imazing! Harper doesn't represent Canada, he represents the Bush administration to Canada.

Stop, please. The comparison that Harper represents the Bush Administration to Canada promotes an attitude that says Cananda uses the U.S. as a measure of itself. This attitude does not represent the majority of Canadians, and doubly not Stephen Harper. He has no more love of the U.S. than the average Canadian, and has even been openly disrespectful. The worst that can be said about him in that regard is that he has a vision of Canada that contrasts openly with the Liberal one, and that includes giving leeway where they would be reticent.
Don't get me wrong, Harper is scary. But not for the reasons you listed.
Harper is scary because he is in politics for his own agenda. He does not represent actual voters, but rather a mix of attitudes and ideals that are present in only small portions in a large section of the population. This is the platform he relies on to support him.
Bush makes Harper look like a Liberal.
But he's still scary.

I think he's loony, but since "scary" is the closest to that, I'll have to vote yes.

Harper is the best thing to ever happen to the Canadian left.
A Globe and Mail article I read recently put support for leaving gay marriage as is, i.e. legal, at 60%, and that Harper should not touch it. But instead, he tries to make a big issue outof it.
I KNOW people who don't support gay marriage but would still vote Liberal just to keep him out of office. His right wing posturing just pushes people away, i.e. to the left. Hooray!
I hope he stays as the leader of the Conservative party for a while,as he will inevitably run it right into the ground. May he finish wnat Mulroney started!
Harper is actually representative of the fundamentalist groups we ourselved have here in Canada. Groups that for a long time, have been isolated, and disassociated from one another, and therefore politicaly unimportant. I would really hate to see them become united. *shudders*

What he said.
Harper is a policy wonk. He should stick with the Fraser Institute-style think tanks, and let a real leader run the CPC.
Oh wait - strike that. If they had McKay or Lord as a leader the CPC might win the federal election, and I don't want that.
Carry on, Mr. Harper.

How is this any better than those rabid American Republicans who accuse liberals of being traitors, and representatives of the French, rather than "real Americans". Go away, troll.

he's not scary at the moment (other than the fact that his leadership of the CPoC keeps the liberals in charge of the country indefinately), but if he were ever PM i'd be horrified, so i put yes.

Stephen Harper is the main reason I wouldn't vote Conservative. If they dump him, I wouldn't hesistate, but as is, I'm probably going to vote Liberal.
