1) Eddie Murphy was still funny
2) Men Without Hats liberated an entire generation by assuring us that "we can dance when we want to, we can leave your friends behind"
3) The A Team
4) Mad Max, Paul Hogan and Men at Work (http://members.aol.com/babsjdonne/menatwrk/discog/lyrics/downund.htm) sparked an interest in Australian culture (http://www.chott.com/album/halloween_2.jpg).
5) Regan announced that the bombs would start dropping at midnight.
6) Pee Wee's playhouse was on Saturday morning TV
7) Crack epidemic started allowing folks to buy home electronics and jewlery for under $5.

We should be clear on this: just because Homer Simpson and rocket science are each incredibly powerful and cool forces within our world in their own right does not mean that mixed together they will turn out to be anything other than a disaster.
The same principle applies to the '80's. There were good parts, yes, but no one should ever wish to go back to that decade on the whole. The '90's were so much better.

Ah, yes…the Eighties *reminisces*
The Clash
The Ramones
Cindy Lauper
The Dead Milkmen
Fast Motorcycles
Beirut :( (American Embassy guarding and Barracks blowing up etc.,)
Thinking I had to have a shot of whiskey with 'every' beer  :p
Remembers the sorry state of BIG hair and overdone makeup and Blondie being blown out of her head stoned… :(

The Nineties were very overrated. Could you see Nancy Reagan sitting on Mr. T's lap on television in the '90s?

i thought you were older than that as well lol
guess you just seem mature and stuff :P
also in the 80s: ghostbusters, all the great dan akroyd films, comedies were still funny, i was born too (yay), and great metal music from the states
but they were bad (bad, bad, bad, bad, bad) because of Thatcher imho, so its a mixed blessing

Motley Crue was a hair band, and they rocked. Plus the 80s gave us Guns N Roses, Metallica, Megadeath, Pantera's first four albums, and many more. Plus the nineties had some pretty lousy music too. Just didn't have a name for it.

I won't though. I never really found them anything special. Next to their contemporaries, they were rather plain.
Well, here's my additions:
I was born
The Wall came down
One reason why the 80s sucked though:

I can assure he wasn't, I've seen his 1980's material, and frankly, its worse than the modern material. However, its true, the 80's were the greatest decade of the twentieth century; Thatcher, New Romantics, Reagan and ostentatious hair cuts, genius!

I'm from New Jersey, USA. Tried watching Blackadder a couple of times on public television in the '80s, but it wasn't my thing. Benny Hill and Are You Being Served? were more to my liking. Oh, and Monty Python. Can't forget them.
But there was a certain M Thatcher....

Generation 1 Transformers. They made the 80's great. The current Transformers can't hold a candle to the originals.

Aparently they did. I just learned about it today myself. I was trying to see if "Cowboys" was 90s or early 80s and found this.

5) Regan announced that the bombs would start dropping at midnight.
"I just signed into law legislation that will make the Soviet Union illegal forever. We drop the bombs in ten minutes."
That may have been the funniest line ever spoken, considering who said it and when.
for me the 80's were my glory days
the government in all civilized nations were liars and conspirators
but that gave us something to rally against anarchy
the music for the most part was droll with an upbeat
even the dark stuff could find me doing the pogo in the corner
everything that was completely over-the-top and full
of abandon prepared me for my life as an adult
movies, songs, sitcoms, commercials, fashion:
they were all great because they were mine
kinda like how your parents relate well with the 60's
or whatever
there will never be another decade that appears as
captivating
