I have to confess to have been watching this here also. It's on Swedish TV4... we are just at the end of the first series though. I don't suppose we will get the second for a while... So, please, no clues as to what happens
;)

Like you, I don't watch so much television, but this is quite entertaining and dramatic... although, maybe a little drawn out.

Cliffhanger season endings are the best! :)

My favourite character so far is Locke. He started out such an average guy with extraordinary circumstances, and then on the island became an extraordinary guy in average circumstances (relatively average).

I have a friend who's a fan of Hurley because he's a down-to-earth hero. Oh, he does't save lives or rescue kittens from trees, but he's the guy who quitely makes things happen for everyone, helping others, looking out for them, caring about the little things.

my favorite characters are Sayid and Sawyer. all the characters are so developed i kind of like them all. i like Hurley too because he adds humor to any situation :)

i think the reason it is so entertaining is because there are so many questions. there are so many things going on that something that happens one show may not be explained until maybe 3 shows later. (or if it is explained at all)...

tell me about it... the one tonight is about when sawyer won't give shannon her inhaler, it doesn't sound as interesting as when the cave collapsed in last week and sayid was hit over the head at the end...

i like lost

at the beginning of last season i was expecting it to get cancelled because its too weird to have a big audience. im glad i was wrong

now im just afraid they dont know where they are going and will do the "weird for weirds sake" thing just to fill up episodes.

since youre in ireland.....

thats commented on in one of the last episodes. i thought it was wise of the producers to acknowledge it since anyone in his circumstance would have lost 50 lbs or more by now.

We're just into the second half of series 1 here in Germany (seems we beat British TV to it , though). They showed the first half, then there was a 2 1/2 gap while they dubbed the second half.

I recorded the episodes, but never got round to watching them. Then a friend sent me the episodes straight from America and I watched them more or less in one go. This series is absolutely amazing!

I especially like the fact that all of the 14 or so main characters are fairly round characters and not the usual stereotypical TV types. Apart from this, I think the main reasons for its world wide success are:

- Not a pure American cast, but Aussis, Brit(s), Koreans and the Iraqi help to broaden the appeal to non US viewers
- The interaction between the characters on the island contains many sitcom and other group interaction series, appealing to fans of those genres
- Suspense elements appeal to the whole X-Files, Millenium, etc. fanbase
- The writing is very clever
- The production quality is extremely high for a TV show
- Great sound and music enhance the viewing experience without being annoying. My tip: Watch the show wearing headphones, it's amazing.

All in all, I can't wait for the new episodes!

I despise lost with every ounce of passion within my being.
My main problem with it is that the way they engineer the suspense is so annoyingly obvious, and the show spends forever not getting to the point.
Here is a sample episode:

Creepy pedophile part-time cripple guy: "I will now climb down this hole and discover a secret of the island, but first, we will remember that time 20 years ago when my companion kicked a puppy."
*15 minutes and 2 commercial breaks later*
Companion: "Yes, I sure do feel bad about kicking that puppy. Now it is time to go down the hole."
*Camera cuts back to the beach or cave or wherever else the other people are standing around*
Bitchy Woman 3: "My boyfriend sucks."
Bitchy Woman 4: "No, my boyfriend sucked. Lets remember it."
*Another 10 minutes pass, commercials start*
Commercial announcer: "By Gain, or we'll break your mom's knee caps!"
*5 minutes later*
Bitchy Woman 3: "Indeed, your boyfriend did suck"
*Camera cuts to 2 guys standing around*
Guy 1: "Was your father a hotdog vendor, who lived at 156 Chuckawalli lane?"
Guy 2: "Yes, how did you know?"
*More annoying angst ridden backstory that takes 17 minutes. Oh yeah, and Guy 1 killed Guy 2's dad*
Guy 1: "Just guessing"
*Camera cuts away to someone else*
Someone Else: WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE! LOOK OVER THERE!
*Everyone but the camera looks over there, the camera looks at everyone's feet for a minute, and then back to erectile disfunction commercials*
Creepy pedophile part-time cripple guy: "Companion, what were we planning to do at the beginning of this episode?"
Companion: "Climb down the hole."
Creepy pedophile part-time cripple guy: "Oh, yes"
Creepy pedophile part-time cripple guy: *Climbs down hole*
*Episode ends, guess you'll have to wait another week to know whats in the goddamn hole, suckers!*
*Suddenly wealthy executive producer someone where starts rolling naked in piles off money. Fortunately this is not filmed. Unfortunately, it would be more interesting than the show he spawned.*

opinions vary...

...the secretiveness of the show is what makes it so appealing. the flashbacks all tie together in what the episode is trying to achieve in the current situation...

The show is quite clever. Each episode ends as a mini-cliffhanger and I am waiting for the one coming up. Who is the mysterious guy with the gun pointed at Locke's head?

Nope, just the second half of the first season. Pro7, the German TV station broadcasting the show, was so eager to show both "Lost" and Desperate Houswives" that they didn't dub the whole series, but only a few episodes, then started broadcasting, while still dubbing newer episodes. They then had a summer break in the middle in order to dub the rest of the season and also to sit out the time of year, where viewing figures are generally low. Instead the re-run the first half to get new viewers. And judging by the ratings this worked quite well, so I expect the same next year.

I can’t stand Lost, but then, House and ER are the only “dramas” on television that are worth an hour anyway.

I guess that's why they refer to them as "the new episodes" and not "the second season" then. :D

We're still on the first series in the UK. I was enjoying it, but the last episode (Sayid torturing Sawyer) didn't really take the plot forward and was a bit of a let down. It has already become a bit formulaic - some kind of tension in the group reveals, through flashbacks, the murky past of one of them, if you're lucky you might get a tiny bit of plot added on.

I'll keep watching, but they need to do something different soon to keep my attention. I hope they'll follow Sayid on his mapping trip and we'll get to find out more about the island.
