"This Ain't No TV Show"
Hell No We Ain't Alright
By CHUCK D.
New Orleans in the morning, afternoon, and night
Hell No We Ain't Alright
Now all these press conferences breaking news alerts
This just in while your government looks for a war to win
Flames from the blame game, names? Where do I begin?
Walls closing in get some help to my kin
Who cares? While the rest of the Bushnation stares
As the drama unfolds as we the people under the stairs
50% of this Son of a Bush nation
Is like hatin' on Haiti
And setting up assassinations
Ask Pat Robertson- quiz him.... smells like terrorism.
Racism in the news
Still one-sided news
Saying whites find food
prey for the national guard ready to shoot
Cause them blacks loot
New Orleans in the morning, afternoon, and night
Hell No We Ain't Alright
Fires, earthquakes, tsunamis
I don't mean to scare
Wasn't this written somewhere?
Disgraces all I see is black faces moved out to all these places
Emergency state, corpses, alligators and snakes
Big difference between this haze and them diamonds on the VMA's
We better look
What's really important
Under this sun especially if you over 21
This ain't no TV show
this ain't no video
This is really real/ beyond them same ole "keep it real"
Quotes from them TV stars drivin' big rim cars
'Streets be floodin,' B/ no matter where you at, no gas
Driving is a luxury
Urgency
State of emergency
Shows somebody's government
Is far from reality....
New Orleans in the morning, afternoon, and night
Hell No We Ain't Alright
I see here we be the new faces of refugees
Who ain't even overseas but here on our knees
Forget the plasma TV-ain't no electricity
New worlds upside down-and out of order
Shelter? Food? Wasssup, wheres the water?
No answers from disaster/ them masses hurtin'
So who the f**k we call?--Halliburton?
Son of a Bush, how you gonna trust that cat?
To fix s**t when help is stuck in Iraq?
Making war plans takin' more stands
In Afghanistan 2000 soldiers dyin' in the sand
But that's over there, right?
Now what's over here is a noise so loud
That some can't hear but on TV I can see
Bunches of people lookin' just like me
Chuck D. is in the rap group Public Enemy.

Chuck D's a fucking idiot whose truly lost his mind. Elaborate on the critiques? Why do you post this nonsense? The guy probably doesn't even have a complete high school education. He makes everything political and doesn't give a damn about the victims of hurricane katrina. Some of who I know because they had to transfer to my university because THEIR UNIVERSITY WAS SUBMERGED. So this idiot can take his lyrics and shove it.

and a piece of paper, called a degree really actually makes a person smarter, dontcha know
Ach, the man (group) has some classics under his belt, but I think it's time he (they) retired. This seems to be random pick on a topical issue to get them back into the spotlight.

It is sophomoric, like the ramblings of a politically minded 13 year old.
"New Orleans in the morning, afternoon, and night/Hell No We Ain't Alright"
That really is pathetic for someone who has made a career as an MC.

Actually there is an education backing that piece of paper. 120 units worth of classes backing that piece of paper (at least in California). Concepts backing that piece of paper.. not so f--king worthless anymore? Since I'm going to have that piece of paper my opportunities would be more open then one who doesn't have it.

His point wasn't about the effort involved to get a degree, but that people without degrees are not necessarily less intelligent than those with them.

They are less flexible in the work force. They have less to fall back on...

Doesn't make them any less intelligent or intellectually capable, though.

I never said that did I?
All I said was that it helps open opportunities.

So when you said that Chuck D "probably doesn't even have a complete high school education", you meant that he will probably have trouble finding gainful employment?

I'm saying he probably doesn't have the skills like some other people. But moreso, he's not too smart based on his childish rantings..

Look at this, anyway.

"After graduating from Roosevelt Junior-Senior High School, Chuck went to Adelphi University in Long Island, New York."
Well, there you go :p

I think he's run out of ideas. Elvis had crap songs....the Beatles had crap songs...happens to all artists. His old work was actually good.

Well there you go, attack the man's ideas, not the man himself. Even if the man expressing ideas is a dumbass, that does not mean that his idea isn't completely correct.

Actually Chuck D has a college degree, is generally a well spoken individual and is probably one of the most socially concious rappers of all time. He never sold-out in the initial gangsta days and when he writes (either articles, essays or raps) is always mindful of current events.
I liked it, although with music it simply would've better (it's hard to get an idea of the feeling of the words without a beat).
In reality, your statement makes you look dumber than the average college student. You know people displaced because of the Hurricane? SO WHAT?!?! Your special because mommy and daddy pay for you to go to a university where the let people enter programs because they were displaced? again...SO WHAT?!?! Who are you but a closed minded consumer that thinks money fixes everything and rallying people via music is pointless?

yeah I should of looked into whether he has a degree. I'm sure he has had his hits.. but this is not good... and I can appreciate some rap.. but this is certainly crap.

Maybe you should try to think about what you say before you say it. First off, I'm not "dumber" then the average college student. Secondly, I have several grants. My mom and dad don't pay for anything. Thirdly, I go to a state university. You are the close minded one. And that song was fucking stupid. I never said money fixes everything, but it can most certainly give people a roof over their heads and food on the damn table.

I have never seen a post and response that had totally reasonable portions and outright flame portions that were divided so clearly before.
