That's right, a nation of nationstaters. Thanks to the lovely folks in the #nationstates IRC channel, this wonderful idea developed. Are you tired of living in a country that is ruled by a bunch of nameless politicians whose only credentials are years of experience and and education? Well I sure am. That's why I am proposing the idea of an Island-Nation ruled purely by anyone who owns a nationstate. Everyday we come to this amazing website to do just that, run a nation. Why not extend these ideas to real life. But becuase nationstates is filled with people who have very different views on how to run a country, I decided to pose a question. How would you run a real-life nation? Let's see how everyone answers. Keep in mind, though, that in your answer, include how you would run the economy, how much would you give in terms of civil rights, welfare, taxes, whether or not you would support a strong military and would you be willing to consider the views of the hundred thousand other nationstaters? Anything else you would like to comment on? Go ahead!
I already know how my nation would be run:
It would be very Libertarian. People would be able to exercise their rights to the full extent as long as they do not hurt (physically or any other means) or kill any other person. A police force would be in place to ensure that. Paying for it will be discussed later. Businesses would have very little in terms of restrictions. There would be no welfare, but taxes would be very small. Only enough sales tax would be raised to support a military needed for defense as well as other basics (roads, education). Because this is just a small island, not that much would be needed though. It is based much upon ideals, but every government starts with an ideal and builds on that. I believe that people make themselves happy and they don't need the government.
