Ok, remember when I posted about the Flight 93 Memorial "Conspiracy" and how some people were getting worked up/found that using a Crecent in the memorial was in bad taste? (But Islam doesn't HAVE Religious Symbols...)

For those who got snarky about "Seeing Religious Symbols Everywhere" check THIS (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005430136,,00.html) out:

ICE creams are being withdrawn from Burger King — because a design on the lid looks like the word Allah. ((If written by a toddler) ) http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005430136,,00.html

Hmmm... Pot, Kettle, Black. Ain't Religion Fun? :headbang:

Funny as this may be, this is the Sun we're talking about. Not necessarily one of the most reliable papers... :)

That's OK, maybe "The Scotsman" will set things aright:

Burger King recalls 'sacrilegious' desserts

JOHN INNES

THE fast-food chain, Burger King, is withdrawing its ice-cream cones after the lid of the dessert offended a Muslim.

The man claimed the design resembled the Arabic inscription for Allah, and branded it sacrilegious, threatening a "jihad".

The chain is being forced to spend thousands of pounds redesigning the lid with backing from The Muslim Council of Britain. It apologised and said: "The design simply represents a spinning ice-cream cone."

The offending lid was spotted in a branch in Park Royal last week by business development manager Rashad Akhtar, 27, of High Wycombe.

He was not satisfied by the decision to withdraw the cones and has called on Muslims to boycott Burger King. He said: "This is my jihad. How can you say it is a spinning swirl? If you spin it one way to the right you are offending Muslims."

A Muslim Council spokesman said: "We commend the sensitive and prompt action that Burger King has taken."http://news.scotsman.com/uk.cfm?id=1951292005

Nope. There's just no pictures with this one. I thought the pictures were important to put it into perspective.

I've taken to not believing newspapers that share too many characteristics with children's books (lotsa pictures and large, easily readible print) ever since I keep seeing examples where Europe's largest one of them actually makes things up to enhance it's twisting of the truth...

Religious people acting silly? Why, I never! It's not like they regularly see "virgin" Mary on toast or something...

Well as a general thing I wouldn't be overly happy with seeing the word 'God' or 'Christ' on a Burger king wrapper.

That said it's a bloody tenuous claim.

Well, when you're a dead religious figure, there isn't much to do but appear on rust stains and pieces of toast.

Stupid company. I mean, WHY?
Then again, I shouldn't have expected more from companies like these.

Burger King has not yet seen fit to post a press release on their UK website. Makes me wonder how accurate the UK papers have reported this.

Here is the packaging in question:

How could I have overlooked this relation between ice cream and Islam? Clearly ala-mode must be banned, as well. It certainly does sound like I say Allah when I ask for ice cream on my cobbler.
