The Land of the Enemy

What is the prettiest song you've ever heard?
I've seen so much tough-talking guys around the forum, so I thought I'd try to get us all in touch with our feminine side if you will. Any ladies here are just as welcome to share, of course.

Try to provide a link to the song if you can/

For me, I have to go with "Lullaby" from the anime, "Key The Metal Idol."
I'm not really an anime geek, but I just liked this song.

No one's answering?

...

I'm really not suprised. I guess there are too many people who are too insecure in their masculinity or something that prevents them from trying to even utilize the anonymity of the internet to admit that something is "pretty."

That song from Azumanga Daioh. That was a good one, but maybe only with the video accompanying it.. Also a few by Boards of Canada are pretty pretty. And that one you posted is ok too, at least the very beggining. I feel like I'm forgetting something seriously pretty though.

It depends on what you mean by 'pretty'.

"Apart" by The Cure is deliciously melancholy.
"1959" by The Sisters of Mercy is a lovely refrain over sensuous piano.
"Love's Secret Domain" by Coil is disturbing, but hauntingly gorgeous.
"Pre-Original Chaostrophy" by Coil is an enchantingly beautiful interlude.
"Hey, Jupiter" by Tori Amos is very 'pretty'.
"The Letter" or "Your Ghost" by Kristin Hersh are both quite lovely.
"Fait Accompli" or "Split into Fractions" by Curve.
"Bake my Biscuits" by Mazzy Star.

Raspberry Heaven or Cake of Mishearing?

I don't actually know the name.

But more importantly, what is with you? Every time I post somethign about Azumanga Daioh you're there. It's happened twice and I'm starting to get really freaked out.

A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Sex) by Korn.

Honestly somehow it always seems
That am dreaming of something I could never be
It doesnt MATTER me ´cause I will always be the pimp
That I see in all of my fantasies

I dont know your fucking name
So what? Lets......

Screwing may be the only way that I can truly be free
From my fucked up reality
So I dream and stroke it harder
Cause it´s so fun to see my face staring back at me

I dont know your fucking name
So what? Lets fuck anyways!

All day I dream about sex
All day I dream about fucking

All day I dream about fucking
All day I dream about sex
Yes all day I dream about sex and all day I dream about sex
Yes all day I dream about sex and all day I dream about sex
Yes all day I dream about sex and all day I dream about sex
Yes all day I dream about sex

All day I dream about sex
All day I drem about fucking
All day I dream about sex
All day I dream about fucking

I like Original Soundtracks. ANd musicals.

I personally don't know whats my 'prettiest' songs. But recently I've been hooked on to

Band of Brothers Suite Two - Micheal Kamen

It's from the Band of Brother series. I'll happily upload if any of you can recommend me a upload website that you guys can hear it. It's 12mb's though :p

"Waiting for my Ruca"- Sublime

Wonderwall, of course, but that should be implied.

"Walking in the Air" - (dunno who)
"If I Could" - 1927
"Wouldn't it be Nice" - Beach Boys

"You Were Meant For Me" - Jewel
"Dream a Little Dream of Me" - The Momas and the Papas
"She" - Elvis Costello
"A Little Cruel" - Harry Manx

Pretty much everything by Sigur Ros

And, just because it makes me deliriously happy with insanity to try and sing along...
"Along Comes Mary" - The Association

God, I love music. And I love this particular thread, since it doesn't involve me getting riled up about matters which are far beyond the understanding of the people actually involved with them, nevermind those of us limited to simply observing/commenting. Thanks!

And Strangers in the Night is my pick for a pretty song.

It is, but it was redone for the show, and I think Megumi Hayashibara did the vocals. If anyone knows, let me know. There's also another version by Utada Hikaru that I like as well.

After Midnight
by Mercedies Lackey

In the dead dark hours after midnight
When the world seems to stop in its place
You can see a little more clearly
You can look your life in the face

You can see the things that you have to
Speak the words to true for the day
In the dead dark hours after midnight
Little friend will you listen and stay

In the time when I never knew you
I could view the world as my own
I was God's own gift to his creatures
And I wore an armor of stone

I was wise and faithful and noble
I was pompous, pious and cold
I was cruel when I never meant it
To cold to touch or to hold

[Interlude]

It was you who broke through my armor
It was you who breached through the walls
With your pain and your desperation
How could I not answer your call

How could I have guessed you would touch me
And in ways I couldn't control
How could I have known I would need you
Or have guessed you have seen to my soul

For as I taught you so you taught me
How to love and why to care
For your love had thawed my winter
Taught me how to feel and dare

When I looked tonight I discovered
I could not against and oppose
In the dead dark hours after midnight
I learned that I owed you my heart

Hmmm, not having heard it, I find myself wondering if it is a cover of the Transvision Vamp masterpiece...While I can't find a sample of yours, the lyrics are radically different. It's the last song on a concept album (Wax Ecstatic). As a concept album, it wanders through every Rock genre possible and excels at most of them.

Have to respect the nomination of "Come as you are"... which has now made me think of "You Know You're Right".... which still brings a tear to the eye... but not entirely because of the loveliness, perhaps.

Also - nice to see Stabbing Westward mentioned. "Why" is very pretty... but "Violent Mood Swings" is sexier. :)

I'm hoping the people who mentioned Nightwish, Dimmu, etc. can relate to at least some of those:

Opeth - "Still Day Beneath the Sun", "Harvest"
Ulver - almost anything from "Kveldssanger"
Agalloch - almost anything, period
Burzum - Tomhet
Dimmu Borgir - "Sorgens Kammer", "Det Nye Riket"
Camel - anything from "Snow Goose"
Doors - The End
Death - Regurgitated Guts
Menhir - These 3 songs of which I haven't been able to find the titles
MDB - For My Fallen Angel
Porcupine Tree - "Trains", "Collapse the Light into Earth"
Smashing Pumpkins - 1979

.. and many more I'm probably forgetting.
