When you grow up

Sick Dreams

What have you always wanted to do for a living?
I always wanted to be a U.S. Marine, but my physical handicaps disqualified me. Now I want to get a bit better at welding and build custom motorcycles.

Personally, I would prefer to be a arts correspondant for the daily Telegreaph, or a corporate Lawyer.

When I was younger, I wanted to go to the US Naval Academy and become a Navy officer or maybe an astronaut (perhaps both), but that got blown out of the water really quickly.

So now I'm doing what I love, teaching.

When I was little I wanted to grow up and be a war hero, but I quickly realized most of the wars we fight aren't worth dieing for.

Now I'm trying to get my degree in criminal justice, hopefully I'll get into the federal area but if not I could always go back home and be a local cop.

There's nothing I've 'always' wanted to do. Right now, or at least, when I graduate, I want to go into music journalism. Respectable music journalism, that is.

An oxymoron if ever I heard one. I'll spare you the Zappa quote and go for this one instead: writing about music is like dancing about architecture.

Something music related, hopefully...

Though i'm currently studying Politics and International Studies at university. I'll probably end up in some field related to these. If not, I can adapt to things fairly easily, and i'd be happy to go back to uni if I had to.

Hmmm...I find that internet fanzines etc are generally respectable. When I said respectable I meant I don't intend to work for the NME or Kerrap! or anything like that.

I'm not trying to belittle your choices by any means, but I'm a bit curious here. Why go to school for something when its not what you want to do? i.e. Going to school for politics, yet wanted to be involved in music? Alot of people seem to do that, and I always wonder why.

On my way to becoming an MD, and that's pretty much what I "always" wanted to be... well, there was that short stint when I wanted to be a singer, but I soon realised that I really did not have the voice for it. Medicine is a nice consolation. ;)

Politics is also a big interest of mine, it's just mostly a back-up (I can't really see myself involved within machine politics). I don't really need a degree in Music to play in a band now, do I? :)

I also take music-theory lessons outside of university as well, but the way I see it, I don't really need any formal qualification.

I always wanted to be a tank commander, but it turns out I'm too tall.. not that it mattered anyway, since 9/11 happened right before I turned 18 and I had to drop out of high school to support the family business and get my diploma though correspondance... nowadays I figure i'll end up a bureaucrat, which will be cool. :) But first, one more year of mind-numbing courses before I graduate.

Well up to the age of 8 I wanted to be a vet
8-14 a psychologist
14-16 a forensic psychologist
a forensic scientist/ virologist
a history teacher
then I realised I would have to study chemistry in college...Chemistry is very very very hard and its so difficult to enter any field of forensics in Ireland
16- I still like science, but precferred histroy more, then I realised that I had always loved politics
So I am now doing politics and history in college, going into my final year.
I want to do a masters in International Law and international Relations.
I WOULD LOVE to work for the UN-either in the field or as Secretary General(hey the thread did ask for you dream job). I do have a notion of entering politics, in the nether regions of my mind, but I think that I would become far to corrupt. I'd start out wanting to do good and I would become evil  and have minions and ...ok I'm starting to like the sound of that! :D

Always wanted to be a chef, but not like the Tv kind, I just want to make good food that everybody likes, not personal glory or anything. It just amazes me how people can add spices and cook things just right and it will taste and appear so much different than something you would make with the same ingredients.

That must suck. :(

Maybe you should try to join the Air Force! That's what I'm going to do, and I doubt there are many physical things you must accomplish....

Or, maybe I'll become a mercenary, and fight for money! I think I'd make an excellent sniper. :sniper:

I never plan on growing up, but I've always had ideas of what I'd like to do for a living.

5 - Airplane pilot (inspired by Robert Munsch's 'Angela's Airplane'.)
7-12 - Actress
12-16 - Lawyer
16-now - Editor or something related to books and reading.
Presently - Still probably want to do editing, but then I have a bunch of other, new ideas floating around my head, like english teacher, actress, something involving science, science teacher, something involving math ... it goes on and on and on.

I used to know what I wanted to do when I grew up, only I don't think that I ever grew up, so it was just a matter of taking what was available and finding out where it goes.

Right now, I'm head of Quality Assurance in a plasma center.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be fighter pilot and then an astronaught. Started studying very young. Math and science, tatics, and then my eye sight when to hell.

Now, I just try to be the best that i can be in whatever I do.

Ideally my career will be in the arts in some way. Since that isn't likely, I will probably end up in politics if I don't make some really stupid mistakes (not likely to happen for that reason) or journalism most realistically.

Doctor, military scientist, geologist, marine biologist, others.

Then high school hits, and I see some aren't a possibility (average grades), or I just don't have the passion it takes to do such things. I had the brains to maybe go into science, but it wouldn't feed my family realistically unless I invent and patent something new, and even then, I'm not the type of person who likes looking at a microscope all day long.

Business it is for me.
