A 14-YEAR-OLD girl was punched and kicked in a "happy slapping" attack as a 20-strong crowd of boys videoed the beating on their mobile phones.

Rebecca Swaby was at a funfair with pals when a girl aged about 19 headbutted her for no reason.

The teen, who lives with her parents and sister in Warwick, said of Saturday's attack: "I could hear all the boys chuckling."

She was left with two broken teeth, cut lips, injuries to her spine and stomach plus a boot shape bruise on her thigh.

Her two friends, who had been cowering behind trees, helped up Rebecca and ran to a house near the scene in Leamington Spa, Warks, where the schoolgirl called her mum June, 43, and dad Paul, 42.

She was taken to hospital to be checked over.

Rebecca had not been on a night out without her parents before as she suffers from black-outs.

An 18-year-old girl was arrested yesterday in connection with the assault and was due to be quizzed by police last night.

very true.happy slapping does seem to be a problem somewhat exclusive to england,to the best of my knowledge.ive never heard of it happening in ireland.although we did have a problem when picture phones first came out,a picture of a teenage girl in her school uniform(sans underwear) that made its way all over the country.needless to say the girl in question was quite embarrassed

The so-called "Happy slapping" has got to be one of the worst trends to surface in recent years.

I hope they find the people who did that, filmed that (and didn't help but supported that attack) and all get charged with assault, failure to render assistance, and/or incitement to a crime.

Also hope the judge dishes out some serious sentences.

I hate people who do that (having been attacked, not happy slapped, myself) and know how she must feel.

Happy slapping started off "reasonably" harmlessly, slapping bald peoples heads, leaving them rather surprised but generally unharmed. It's just got a bit out of control.
Though i hope the people are brought to justice, I wouldnt be too concerned as it is a passing fad- it wont last.

However, if we are looking at it from a moral decline stance, then yes, they'll replace it with something worse.

The problem is that in England, thanks to ass-weasel Blair and his cohorts, is that you are not allowed to fight back. Nor do the police give a fuck. (Unless it is someone actually fighting back).

It's not necessarily the parents' doing, though. I know plenty of teenagers with wonderful parents who did a wonderful job raising them - but the teen would still do something stupid like that. There's a point where you have to stop berating the parents and acknowledge that the kid plays a big part in it - probably about the age when the kid's old enough to have a cell phone.

We have been blaming it all on the "Society" or the "Family" or "TFC" or anything but the violent teens...and the teen violence has NOT slowed down...it has gotten more violent.

I'm in the US. So far, I havent heard of this specific type of victimization here yet. I've only heard about it in the UK in this thread and another thread a few months ago. Very disturbing behavior. I certainly hope it doesnt spread. We have enough random stupidity and violence to deal with already.

Hmmm, it seems that juveniles are committing these crimes correct? And they are not prosecuted for assault in most cases correct? If so, I think I have a solution. Begin training a cadre of juveniles who specifically target Happy Slappers. Start incorporating into the teen culture that taking down happy slappers makes you cool and is a sign of prestige.

Once the idea spreads among the more impressionable people, particularly the ones with capable combat ability, you only have to sit back and watch the results.

I was almost the victim of a 'happy slapper' once. Though it's hard to take them seriously when it's three fat 14 year olds. On a more serious note, if the police do catch the people responsible for this, and it does end up in court, I'd be surprised if they get more than an ASBO (Antisocial Behaviour Order).

I was happy slapped a few months ago, suffice to say that the 15 year olds responsible didin't appreciate being happy stamped on the floor repeatedly until their faces were covered in blood. And they were prosecuted for assualt:D
