mario, sonic the hedgehog and quest for glory 1 can be beaten pretty quickly, never actually timed it, though.

Do cheats count ?
If so - monkey island 1 in 2 seconds. With 500 of 500 points IIRC ;)
oh, the First Ranma1/2 fighting game for the SNES.

Original Mario Brothers and Michael Jackson: Moonwalker.
And might I add, it was scary enough that the latter game even existed.

robo cop something or other on the snes. 17 minutes. simple.
The only thing I've ever beat in under 20 minutes is mario on my calculator, but that's not a commercial game. I have seen Super Mario Brothers 3 beaten in aproximately 11 minutes though. Not sure if it's real but I saw it on e-baums world somewhere. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

You might want to either edit that out or delete your post. eBaums world and Something Awful links are against forum rules here.

Wow. My best is something like 45 minutes. I mean, you can't keep boosting. Not if you want to shoot down a lot of stuff along the way anyway.
Anyway, the games I could beat in less than twenty minutes:
- Monsters In My Pocket (NES)
- Asterix the Gaul (NES)
- Parodius (Game Boy)
I'm still working on Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.

I've beaten Super Mario World in less than 20 minutes before, about 9 or 10 years ago. I don't remember how long I took exactly, I just remember it was less than 20, because I bet someone $100 that I could do it in less than 20 and I won. I've also gotten 100% (whichever the max was, 96 or 97 I think) in about 2.5 hours, though that's a lot less impressive.

Super Smash Brothers, both Regular & Melee.
Chrono Trigger (New game+)
Several games of Chess
Switch (also known as Panic!)
Nothing Constructive
But those are boring- the following take the ingenuity to completely ignore the rules and the way it's supposed to be played to just go straight for the fight. Here are the gems-
Civ 2
Fallout (Original)

Also, there are a handful of turn-based strategy games (Shining Force Style) where I only let the leader level and ignore everyone else (maybe let a healer have some life). This tends to quarter the time and make the game a lot easier, but I don't think it's ever let anything drop below 20 minutes.
Lets see, i beat Starfox 64 in 20 min, Super smash bros melee in 20, and Goldeneye in 26 min and 18 sec, yep i wrote it down. tehehe.
Metroid, with NARPAS SWORD0 00000[anything after this will work], 9 minutes-19 for best ending after beating it without suit.
Now trying:
Super Mario Bros. So far, I've gotten to world 8 within 5 minutes, using warp pipes of course.

- 007 Goldeneye (Nintendo 64)
- Street Fighter (Super Nintendo)
- Tekken 2 (PS1)
- Mini Putt (Flash Game)
- Mini Putt 2 (Flash Game)
- Mini Putt 3 (Flash Game)
- Many other Flash Games
But those are boring- the following take the ingenuity to completely ignore the rules and the way it's supposed to be played to just go straight for the fight. Here are the gems-
Civ 2
Impressive. However, I always liked to savor my experiences and take my time with Civ 2/Civ 3 (and probably Civ 4 when I buy it).

Hmm.
Z.O.E 2 (PS2)
Devil May Cry 2 (PS2)
All mario games before they were rendered 3-d (NES-SNES)
Goldeneye (N64)
And probably every SNES & NES game(not including such RPGS as Final Fantasy) ever played.
Tried to beat Final Fantasy Eight in forty minutes but it ended up in around four hours.
