Would the court in question have been concerned in the slightest had an offence of the similar manner been commited against a normal, meiocre person?

"The names and contact details for celebrities in the address book, including Vin Diesel and Anna Kournikova, as well as pictures of Ms Hilton found their way on to the net thanks to the hacker."

Somehow, the thought of a threesome of Paris Hilton, Anna Kournikova, and Vin Diesel scares the shit outta me! :D

As Paris Hilton is a "celebrity" - I use the term VERY lightly, but being a socialite and the heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune does throw you into the limelight - it counts as an invasion of privacy. I imagine that if this offense was committed against an "un-celebrity", it would carry the same punishment. This case will have been over publicized etc, as Paris Hilton is involved. Wherever a "celebrity" is, the media is bound to be also. But the paparazzi don't tend to follow the simple common folk that don't live in "Celebrity Land."

Damn, that sentence is way too harsh. All he did was hack into some woman's phone - he didn't steal any money or anything concrete. In fact, they should put his skills to good use.

No, it's not. Did you read the whole article?
Other crimes committed by the teenager in a 15-month period starting in March 2004 included breaking into the networks of net and telephone firms, and making bomb threats to high schools in Florida and Massachusetts.
11 months juvenile detention and a two year supervision order for that? I say it's not harsh enough.

She's an actress?

I thought she was just a high priced "working girl"...

The mind boggles at what's considered acting these days.

I don't even know who is Paris Hilton person is, so on the celebrity/normal person front I couldn't comment. However I would say, how did he acctually hack a mobile phone? I would also say that while it is an invasion of privacy the sentace passed was a little weighty. A simple suspension and forced apology would seem enough. Well it would to me anyway.

By the way, how was he caught?

She's done two seasons of the tv show "The Simple Life", and she's acted in commercials.

No shes a multi-milionaire heiress, and a perfect example of why not all rich people deserve their money.

Two years without a computer or any devices that can access the internet....

I'd kill myself. That isn't something I could endure.

You have a pretty loose definition of "acted" there, but I'll allow it.

The real funny thing, although I'm not entirely sure if it's accurate, is that he was able to hack her blackberry because 1) if you don't know the password, it allows you a backdoor way in by answering a personal question, and 2) that personal question was: what is the name of your pet. Now I've spent less than five minutes of my life paying attention to Ms. Hilton, and even I know what her pet's name is.

So no, the government shouldn't recruit him, because if that story is true, then he hacked her blackberry because she was retarded, not because he was a computer whiz.

I'd kill myself. That isn't something I could endure. He's only banned from owning them. His parents should let him use the computer - apart from the bomb threats (which I'd be seriously down on) I'd be proud of him. :D

I need my internet. It is my biggest addiction. Well maybe second biggest. I need my sex too.
