For those that enjoy 1/72 models or the game of Diplomacy

I've been working on a custom set of pieces for quite some time. They consist of three 1/72 scale models of WWI infantry of the relevant nation. I've finally gotten my hands on a digital camera and I want to show them off now :D

It's been incredibly difficult finding any models at all, and I still haven't found anything for Italy or naval pieces, but here are the player pieces so far (the pictures are blurry. I blame my sisters digital camera for this...):

Austria-Hungary (http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/5383/austrianinfantry5ty.jpg)
England (http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/7826/englishinfantry2tv.jpg) (This is what it's called in the game)
France (http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/51/frenchinfantry0dk.jpg)
Germany (http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/2691/germaninfantry5eg.jpg)
Russia (http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5936/russianinfantry0ly.jpg)
Turkey (http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5467/turkishinfantry1dx.jpg)

To anyone not familiar with Diplomacy, the colors of the bases are according to the playing pieces in the real game. There are navy and army pieces, although I haven't been able to find anything to use as navies.

How sad that the first day of the Somme is so readily forgotten.

I only use WWI infantry because the only thing harder to find is 1901 infantry models ;). Technically, that's when the game starts, it just includes the main protagonists of WWI in Europe.

You are my new hero. Diplomacy rocks!!! We played it in my AP European History class after we had taken the AP exam and had nothing else to learn... good times.

First time I played it was on a train ride. We'd switch to different unused compartments to plot against eachother.

This may sound like an ignorant question, but I genuinely don't know. I am intrigued also. What is diplomacy? I don't mean "its a game", i mean how do you play etc.

lol that works out well. we wandered about the school using unused classrooms... and no one seemed to care for some reason, probably because we were ap students. And plotting is the best. I think I went from being allied with everyone on one turn to being everyone's enemy on the next. what a great game.

In short, its a game kind of like Risk, where you're trying to take over the world/Europe, but instead of using dice and chance to see who wins, you have to make allies with other players and use their support to take over new territories. Then you backstab them later and find new allies etc until you have taken over Europe.

Chess and Risk come closest to the basic gist of the game. The rules are available at the Diplomacy Archive (http://www.diplomacy-archive.com), among other sites.
