Seeing as how the poll is not multiple choice, I think hermaphrodite could come under 'Other'...as for Myrth, well, who knows?

Yes, I know that most hermaphrodites are known as either male- or female-hermaphrodite. But seeing as NS has a wide variety of humanity, is it beyond reason that there may be an 'unclear-hermaphrodite' among us?

gen·der (jĕn'dər)
n.
Grammar.
A grammatical category used in the classification of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and, in some languages, verbs that may be arbitrary or based on characteristics such as sex or animacy and that determines agreement with or selection of modifiers, referents, or grammatical forms. It's a pet peeve of mine how "gender" has become a politically correct term for sex. If it is to be used in the context of male/female, it describes gender roles, and has nothing to do with biology.

USAGE NOTE Traditionally, gender has been used primarily to refer to the grammatical categories of “masculine,” “feminine,” and “neuter,” but in recent years the word has become well established in its use to refer to sex-based categories, as in phrases such as gender gap and the politics of gender. This usage is supported by the practice of many anthropologists, who reserve sex for reference to biological categories, while using gender to refer to social or cultural categories. According to this rule, one would say The effectiveness of the medication appears to depend on the sex (not gender) of the patient, but In peasant societies, gender (not sex) roles are likely to be more clearly defined. This distinction is useful in principle, but it is by no means widely observed, and considerable variation in usage occurs at all levels.

Hermaphrodite isn't really the proper term, since humans can't actually be hermaphrodites. I'm intersexed (and I know I'm not the only one that reads the boards - I've seen a couple others), but identify as a woman.

Not sure about what your asking in the first question.

A hermaphrodite is an organism that can reproduce as both a male and a female. Due to the way humans develop, it's only possible to be fertile as one (or neither).

There are a number of different ways someone could be intersexed. Chromosomes not matching the external sex (CAIS causes women who are XY genetically), reproductive organs might not match the external sex (born looking female, but testes internaly for example), both kinds of reproductive tissue (though, again they won't both 'work'), and ambiguous genitalia are all intersexed conditions.

This is a bigotted poll!

Gender is a state of mind.

Last time I checked, whether you are a male or female of the human species had nothing to do with how you feel and everything to do with what working parts you have between your legs. A person can not determine their gender/sex (take your pick; they mean the same thing in this context in today's society) just by saying, "I think of myself as a man (or woman)" any more than they can determine their race by saying, "I think of myself as a white (or black or hispanic or asian etc.)." It may be true that someone identifies more with a different race than what they actually are, but it doesn't make them that race. The same thing goes for gender/sex.
It's not bigotry: it's just biology.
