my kids are allowed 2 hours of tv time a week. my youngest watches 30 min of tv on mon-thurs and my oldest watches a football game on saturdays

I watch about 3 hours of tv a week and my hubby watches the same shows I do.

My mom watches about 10 hours a day (Thank God she doesn't live with us) My 2 year old asked me once "Why is g-ma's tv always on?"

We do have movie time on saturday nights though and I guess that tacks on another 2 hours for us all, but it is quality veiwing (or as quality as The muppets take Manhattan can be)

My inlaws (whose tv is always on,even during dinner) think I am depriving my kids of something but because they haven't been "babysat" by the tv they have found lots of other stuff to do that is way more enriching (like reading)

I find the standing on one leg thing more amazing. Not to mention the 100 hours straight of bowling. God, I would have had some many blisters if I bowled that long.

Maybe one to two hours. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.

Wise man.

Sadly, the tellies in our house are on from about 8am to 11pm - even if nobody's watching them. People complain if you turn them off ("There's something coming on in a minute!"). They're really annoying.

Maybe if almost all TV programmes weren't rubbish it'd be worth spending the time it takes to watch them...

I have two shows I watch each week-an hour each. Sometimes there is something good on the History Channel . I rearely flip through looking for something. I read a lot more than I watch TV.

I'd always choose reading over tv anyway...but with kids, just zoning out in front of a tv isn't an option. Then again, they watch more tv than me...but I limit them to an hour a night, if at all (only if they think of asking for it...many nights they forget about it if it isn't turned on first), with the occasional movie on nights I'm sick, or really need to get a bunch of housework done. Other than that, tv is persona-non-grata in our house.

I'll admit that if I had cable, the television would be on a lot more, as I love the History Channel. That being said, the only shows I watch with regularity are Smallville and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
