We'v already heard from the nuttiest of the wingnut preachers on the notion that Katrina was God's wrath being visited on all the homos in New Orleans (although he apparently wasn't so pissed at the ones in Wilton Manors, FL, the gayest city in the country). Fred Phelps wasn't even the first one to go there--some other idiot was racing with the abortion folks (who claimed a color radar image of the storm looked like a fetus) to give God the credit for destruction.

Hollywood – Pat Robertson on Sunday said that Hurricane Katrina was God’s way of expressing its anger at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its selection of Ellen Degeneres to host this year’s Emmy Awards. “By choosing an avowed lesbian for this national event, these Hollywood elites have clearly invited God’s wrath,” Robertson said on “The 700 Club” on Sunday. “Is it any surprise that the Almighty chose to strike at Miss Degeneres’ hometown?”

Robertson also noted that the last time Degeneres hosted the Emmys, in 2001, the September 11 terrorism attacks took place shortly before the ceremony.

“This is the second time in a row that God has invoked a disaster shortly before lesbian Ellen Degeneres hosted the Emmy Awards,” Robertson explained to his approximately one million viewers. “America is waiting for her to apologize for the death and destruction that her sexual deviance has brought onto this great nation.”....

“God already allows one awards show to promote the homosexual agenda,” Robertson declared. “But clearly He will not tolerate such sinful behavior to spread beyond the Tonys.”
I was no fan of Ellen, but damn, the show wasn't that bad.

He's not the dumbest person alive. The people who take him seriously as a theologian and a news man are probably quite a bit dumber.

One good thing about the NO fiasco: preachy people from the south can no longer lord sending aid to NYC over us and as far as I'm concerned, we're even. Just a few more southern states to go and everything'll be good.

I thought the angel was supposed to find one good man, he found Lot, the only guy who didn't want to bugger him, and god nuked the city anyway. Later Lot got drunk and banged his two daughters.

There are sure a lot of people that think they are obligated to speak for God, aren't there? I've always figured that if God had something to say, he wouldn't have to use Pat or Fred to make the point. Then again, maybe Moses was just as crazy...

Well, first of all, while the formation of Katrina had nothing to do with global warming, her strengthening certainly did, and second of all, no one blames the Bush administration for Katrina or the damage she caused, we only blame him for the shitty reaction. And we're not nuts. Happy?

This guy has a really messed up concept of deity. Actually, he probably just thinks that if he thinks something is true, then it surely must be God's will. Pat Robertson has become his own god.

On to the quote above. Does anyone else just find that a little mixed up? Either God will not tolerate such things in the least and smite the attendees of both with disasters (as most of your more radical Christians would have it), or He will ignore them so long as they fall outside His plans (let the world go its way...). It's like saying "No no no, God has already allowed one sinful program. That's the quota..."

In accordance with the rest, this man is a complete and utter fool. If God really was angered at the ceremony, you would see lightning and earthquakes and terrible happenings there, not in New Orleans.

He doesn't even crack the top ten.

That's how screwed up our country is. There's alot more people more stupid than him.
