*Newsflash* - The Louisiana Refund

BATON ROUGE, LA. - The White House announced today that President Bush has successfully sold the state of Louisiana back to the French at more than double its original selling price of $11,250,000.

"This is a bold step forward for America," said Bush. "And America will be stronger and better as a result. I stand here today in unity with French Prime Minister Jack Sharaq, who was so kind to accept my offer of Louisiana in exchange for 25 million dollars cash."

The state, ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, will cost hundreds of billions of dollars to rebuild.

"Jack understands full well that this one's a 'fixer upper,'" said Bush. "He and the French people are quite prepared to pump out all that water, and make Louisiana a decent place to live again. And they've got a lot of work to do. But Jack's assured me, if it's not right, they're going to fix it."

The move has been met with incredulity from the beleaguered residents of Louisiana.

"Shuba-pie!" said New Orleans resident Willis Babineaux. "Frafer-perly yum kom drabby sham!"

However, President Bush's decision has been widely lauded by Republicans.

"This is an unexpected but brilliant move by the President," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. "Instead of spending billions and billions, and billions of dollars rebuilding the state of Louisiana, we've just made 25 million dollars in pure profit."

"This is indeed a smart move," commented Fox News analyst Brit Hume. "Not only have we stopped the flooding in our own budget, we've made money on the deal. Plus, when the god-awful French are done fixing it up, we can easily invade and take it back again."

The money gained from 'The Louisiana Refund' is expected to be immediately pumped into the rebuilding of Iraq

What? Haven't you heard GW try to pronounce Nuke-you-lor.... nuke-lee-air.... atomic before? You think he does better with foreign leader's names? Watching him try to get Jean Chretien right in his first term was funny....

Nope, not from the Onion (that I know of). Found it in a friend's journal...

If your friend wrote this, s/he ought to send it to The Onion. It's right up their alley, and s/he could possibly be rewarded handsomely.

I love it!

Methinks that Jean Chretien was a bad example because he has a hard time speaking English. Have you listened to him talk about anything? Anyway, I know that GWB has a hard time with foreign leaders names but thats OK. I can just see Jean Chretien trying to say some of the same names.

Near as I can tell, Jean was unable to communicate clearly in EITHER official language. but it's still not a bad example given that making fun of it was an accepted Canadian national pasttime - even by him as he was known to lampoon himself as a guest on several Canadian comedy shows.

Which is to say that nobody in Canada would jump up and say "Don't make fun of the way he talks" as so many people do with GW in some lame, automatic defence mechanism regarding GW....

Want to make fun of Jean's speech? Go ahead - I'll join in. Why can't you do the same with GW?

Nice to see you can make fun of people's hardship.

You're all very sad and sick individuals, shame on you.

Get a grip, I'm making fun of the President who - near as I can tell - suffered only the loss of a day of vacation, and about ten points of popularity in the polls.

Frankly, I've had hangnails more painful than anything he suffered as a result of this tragedy.

Thats pretty funny stuff. As for the person who thinks its sick to laugh at tragedy, get a grip my friend. Laughter is one of the things people most need to heal from a tragedy. I'm sure most of the flood victims would see the humour in this and share in the laughter.
