Gasoline isn't all that high-priced after all!

NOTE: Got this in an email, so don't EVEN start whinning about "sources!" :p

With all these e-mails going around about the high price of gas, this one
should make you feel better. ~~~

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the
pump...

Compare with Gasoline:

Think a gallon of gas is expensive? This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ....... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 .... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 .......... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ........... $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 .... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ... $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ........ . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?!

$21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source.
(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on
water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid, Pepto Bismol or Nyquil.

Should I point out why that list is completely assinine, or have you already figured it out for yourself?

I don't pay a penny for "gasoline". Or petrol.

The only difference here is that I don't buy my Pepto-Bismal on a regular basis, or by the (multiple) gallon even. With gas I do. Supply and demand. I'm spending more on gas than I am water, milk, or just about anything else right now.

Teh sux0rz... :(

The difference is, when I get thirsty, I don't drink 20 gallons of water.

And Romanore is the winner. No one gives a shit that Nyquil is $180 a gallon. Maybe if we bought it by the gallon, we'd care. People care about the amount of money it's actually costing them, not how much per gallon. It's just as idiotic as when people say that when Liechtenstein doantes $100 million to charity it's better than when the USA donates $6 billion, because Liechtenstein donates more per person.

Eut... I'm sorry but...

Diet Snapple,Lipton Ice Tea, Gatorade, Ocean Spray, Brake Fluid, Vick's Nyquil, Pepto Bismol, Whiteout, Scope, Evian water

are not products that anyone needs to function in this society. You don't need gallons of Evian just to get to work each week. Pepto Bismol is not used in the transport of nearly all goods and products. These things are all basically luxuries that one purchases in small quantities, as opposed to gasoline which really is a necessity one needs to purchase in comparitively large quantities. Those things are also commercial goods whereas oil is an industrial good. In fact, oil is used in the production and distribution of each and every one of those products. Even break fluid doesn't compare.

We're all aware that gas costs less per volume than Lipton ice tea, but no one ever went broke trying to get their weekly allottment of Lipton ice tea. And if they did they were stupid and deserved it. :P Further, if prices of gas were actually controlled by market forces they would be much much higher, and as such are only artificially low because of price control fiat. That doesn't really comfort most people.

Reeeeally? Wow! I am sooo glad you chose to elighten us mere mortals with this syncretetic display of wisdom. You have emphipenized me. My eyes are now opened and I can see the world entire! Oh, praise be to Santa Barbara! All hail Santa Barbara!

Simply compare US gas prices with those in countries that do not keep the prices artificially low. Even if you remove the (often very heavy) tax, the prices are still up to 200% higher. Those prices are fair.

Same is true for the cost of electricity. You are paying less per kwh than it costs to produce.

That list fails to mention the most expensive fluid on earth: Printer ink.

Prove that U.S. gas prices are "artificially" low.

Same is true for the cost of electricity. You are paying less per kwh than it costs to produce.
Once again, where is your proof?

Out of curiousity, where are you from, and what are your credentials to make you an expert upon the cost of production of gasoline and electricity in the U.S.?
