It would appear that the master of morality Pat Robertson has explained that God is punishing Louisiana because Ellen Degeneres is hosting the emmys(she is from New Orleans).

In order to avoid further tragedy, Robertson called not only for the Television Academy to find a new heterosexual host, but to bar all homosexuals and bisexuals from taking part in the ceremony.

Clearly, Robertson has no idea what barring all homosexuals and bisexuals from the Emmys would entail.

Anyone want to take a guess on how Pat Phelps... er Robertson is going to explain this latest verbal jackassery?

Wouldn't it be simpler to bar crazed lunatics like this from mass media? There's got to be some kind of ruling that can apply here. The same that prevents you from yelling fire in a crowded theatre when there isn't one is there?

Yes, yes...because a benevolent deity would obviously decimate a city of people, because one person who doesn't abide by their follower's book comes from the state that the city is a part of. Yes, that'll send the message. "Hey! You!Yes, you! No, no, just the one person. Stop being gay!"

*rolls eyes* Oy. Really, when I see him on TV, I dunno whether to laugh, or get angry.

Bleh... I really hate those kind of persons. (Religous fanatics, that is, not gays) I don't know if you knew but a priest from a chapter in Canada said he was happy so many Swedes were killed by the tsunami disaster since we were too soft on homosexuals.

Why do they feel it's necessary to comment on such things? How the fu(k can people who love other people (Which sounds quite christian to me) be such a pain in the God's ass that he has to punish a whole lot of people at once, including devout christians who happens to be in the wrong place? Why not just smite all the sinners instead? I hate religion...

When you go out in search of inflamatory blind zealots expect to get inflamatory blind responses. He's entitled to his opinion as I am to think hes full of ****. I don't see how this reflects on the Christian faith however, he's certainly in the minority otherwise you would see a whole lot less non-profit religion based aid going there.

Well, it's your heterosexual sides bringing you down. You can't expect to be wishy-washy and then be given ultimate power. It's just not the way it works. If you're going to work to undermine heterosexuality, you can't very well be complicit in it.

hello

while i would never consider agreeing with this statement, were it truely made by this Robertson person, and in fact occasionally define myself as gay (well, semi-) but never ever as religious,i must say that:

a. he should still be allowed to make it. just as i must be allowed to reply that anyone who says so is an idiot

b. what is more significant, i think you're all overlooking a fine (or not so fine) theological point here- we humans are supposed to be moral, god is NOT. if anyone ever read the book of job, that's more or less the point of it. i.e.:

what they teach in most schools goes: god does nasty things to job, he keeps his faith, god rewards him. however, there's a part a lot of people skip, in which, essentially, job finally goes "why?!?" and god answers (there's also a philosophical debate with his friends, before that, which i'm ommiting). each of these phases lasts 20 pages or so, but god's answer, if memory decieves me not, is something like "because". besides, if you assume a superior being, this superior being will kill you eventualy, no matter how straight you are. so it probably might as well choose any way that pleases it to do so.

If God wished, he could place us all in little bubbles and ensure that we had all the food and water we needed to live a long and healthy life. Trials, adversity, and such exist to make us better developed individuals. It would be cruel of God to NOT allow us the opportunity to face challenges in life. Job faced just about every possible one there could be, and did not break or lose faith. He became a better man and was rewarded by God for being a servant both wise and faithful.

So how does Robertson explain God sending Katrina to destroy not just New Orleans, but also the southern coasts of Mississippi and Alabama? Also, Christian singer Aaron Nevelle is from New Orleans. Shouldn't that counteract the fact that a celebrity lesbian is from there also?

The article was a fake.. it was just satire.

He didn't actually say that. You know I wouldn't expect this to come out of Robertson's mouth.. but rather Fred Phelps. Dateline Hollywood should of used Phelps instead of Robertson because that would be more fitting. Robertson says some idiotic things, but this fits more in the Phelps MO.

This has got to be the hipocritical and stupid thing I've ever heard from a Christian:
"Because of that female's sins, God has punished [I don't know how many] of other people that were simply born in the same town as she was. Also remember that God is love and God is just."

Aaaah, Christians are te best...

OK, no more bashing Christianity over this.

Pat Robertson is to Christianity as Stalin is to Communism as Bin Laden is to Islam. There :)

In previous editions, he did not receive any rewards at the end.

I just checked my good old King James. Job got rewards beyond that he had before his trials. Nonetheless, the idea here isn't that we should follow God through thick and thin so we can get rich in earthly terms. The story would possess the same meaning either way - perservere to the end and you'll be the better for it as a person, and therefore worthy of eternal rewards, namely heaven.

The book of Job was written before the Jews had come up with a concrete idea of heaven.
And many (including myself) see that last bit where Job got rewards as an add-in, years after the book was written. Historically and theologicaly this can be affirmed.

So what then?

Freddie Phelps ACTUALLY SAID this tripe. Pat Robertson could be expected to say this tripe. Both will end their lives sadly as old, decrepit excuses for men, and, in the afterlife, have the most disappointing surprise ever. Let's not pay them any attention, because they're crazy babies in need for it. However, I do have a warning: If you don't follow THE GREAT WATERMELON, you'll all go to Hell! I mean it! ;)

As for the victims of Katrina that these idiots are daring to tarnish in their hate-filled agendas, they'll get better. I hope for the best for them, and wish I could do more (I'm from Brazil and have no cash of my own, unfortunately). The dead will be remembered, and will go to an ACTUAL Heaven (assuming one exists) - as opposed to the place Freddie and Pat are going to, which smells surprisingly of fire and brimstone.

As for my own belief system, I only believe that Fred and Pat will be reincarnated badly, and that the victims will reincarnate well. Peace out.
