I bought my first pair the other day and I wish I had never owned anything else. But I noticed that they are made in Slovakia. Is that like having an American brand made in Mexico? How many Danish cobblers were laid off when that transition took place?

Oh, who cares about Denmark?

Perhaps the designers were in Denmark, but the manufacturers in Slovakia. Perhaps none were laid-off.

My image of Denmark is one where cobblers are all self-employed, and shirk such modern conveniences as electricity and plumbing.

That's an awful primitive view (no electricity and plumbing, with you on the self-employed part tho) of Denmark, isn't it?

I always have trouble remembering what Denmark is like... It's like the European country noone ever talks about. At least Sweden and Norway had the whole invasion by the Russians/Germans to make deuterium....

Wait a minute...deuterium?! The only Norway-related stuff on deuterium I know about is the Norwegian heavy water (utilizes deuterium) sabotage operation during WWII. Trying to manufacture plutonium right?

Don't forget the polygamy...

Hang on, I think I'm confusing the Danish with Amish.

Denmark doesn't really exist, silly people. That is all a big conspiracy on the part of Europe to convince everyone that there really is somewhere that is less interesting than Belgium.
That is why they had to make the shoes in Slovokia, because existant people do better work at making shoes than non-existant people. I should know becuase the last time I asked one of the voices in my head to make shoes for me (I even provided them with the leather and the souls of 1,000 virgins that they would require) the voice just slacked off and didn't do anything.

No it's more like the French label My Collection, which is designed in Paris, but made in India.

The problem is more like who DOESN'T get laid off, like the thousands of third world kids who work themselves to death making Adidas and Ecco, yes?

And Denmark is allright. I think I have to say that 'cos I live there ;)
