would you turn yourself into a cyborg if you could?

Pure Metal

say there was a safe, tried & tested way to transfer your mind, your conciousness, personality and your memories into a robot shell... would you do it? would it still be you?
if not, why not?
if you would, what cool abilities would your new robot body have?

lets assume that all the five human senses work perfectly normally and there'll be no difference in perception (unless you want to)

similarly, would you transfer your mind in this way into, say, a (blank) clone of yourself? would this be murder or ethically acceptable at all? reckon its even vaguely feasable in the realms of biomedical science?

me, if it was safe, hell yeah i'd do it :P
being a cyborg/robot would kick ass (what a well thought out arguement i present, eh?)

Provided nobody could tell that I was a cyborg I would.

I would hope that my cyborg body has super strength and speed, is bulletproof, can connect wirelessly to the internet, function as a computer to boost my brain's data storage and math skills, provide me with light amplification and the ability to see into the infrared spectrum for night vision, and be able to survive underwater and at extreme temperatures without any discomfort to me.

"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile."

Hell yes I would. A robot body could feasibly live forever, if you had a mechanic on hand and spare parts. Plus, I might be able to get rocket launchers on my shoulders and shit... ohhh mannn, the awesomeness...

I'd still be me. Well not me as in my body, but the essense/mind/soul of me would be the same, if it was a simple transfer.

I would definately do that if someone built a model kinda like Data from the First Contact era but with my looks. I would love to be able to turn my emotions on and off at will, be bulletproof, be able to move with super speed and precision, have super strength, be EXTREMELY intelligent, be able to calculate stuff no human can in a matter of seconds, and the ability to survive in the vacuum of space or underwater. That would be awesome.

There's really no point to starting a thread about it when there are such impressive websites (http://www.feargod.net/fluff.html) on the subject, is there?

I wouldn't. I have a definite primitivist streak in me, I guess, and I really don't find the idea that appealing.

LOL!

Let's see: This doesn't apply to me because the mortal parts of my body were replaced with metal long ago, when I first became Warlord of the Sgrath. (Now, of course, I'm the Ruler of the Multiverse, but I gained power in a coup d'état in the first place.) Anyway, let's see: I can fly, have mind control abilities, can interfere in wireless networks, can kill people with my left eye, and am completely weapon-proof. In addition, the black metal facemask I wear can also serve as a gas mask, and I can terrify people into submission. Cool, eh? :D

Having watched and enjoyed far, far too much Stand Alone Complex, I'd have to say hell yes I'd become a cyborg! Heck, even just an uploaded consciousness would be fine by me. Organic bodies are so five minutes ago... :D

I think the idea of being able to transfer your consciousness and memories and experience into a new body in order to prolong life is an interesting idea. It would create an overpopulation problem, but still who knows how much knowledge is lost when people die.

I would definitely entertain the idea.

I already am a cyborg. I wear glasses, and I have pierced tongue. Beleive it or not, these do a cyborg make. The glasses are a mechanical addition to my biological form, and thus count to gain me (and anyone who had glasses or contacts) membership in this far from exclusive club.

If you mena would I become half a man/half robot that could kick everyones ass and do all sorts of insanely cool shit, then YES! I would become a "Cyborg"

I'd shuck this meatsack faster than a wet cardigan. Especially if it was a full consciousness upload (Id intact).

My ideal robot body would be a self-replicating nano-tech neural symbiote, able to possess and control the bodies of lesser creatures (thats humans, btw ;) ), infiltrate any electrical system and, once a critical mass of metal and energy have been absorbed, convert my host into a combat cyborg. I'd be a modern mephisto, enjoying all the pleasures of my host's flesh in return for providing immortality and power.

i'd do it, if I didn't need to worry about EMPs, or dead batteries. the sex thing? well, I don't know about you, but I can see see the advantages of being ready at a moment's notice, and able to keep going as long as I want without having to worry about long-term consequences.

I would take few components into my brains to boost them, and some funny stuff in my dick (like capability to change the size incredibly by will (the one who doesn't post "I can do it alraedy" will get a cookie)) to surprise my girlfriend, and replace my old, lame bones with something that doesn't break when your best friend wants to be funny and slamms ya with a baseball bat, like mine did, and then have some super-power-mega-weapons, perfectly hidden of course, so that I could walk down the street, play Race Against The Machines from the super-über.cyber-stereo in my ass, and piss of all other cyborgs, and then crush them with my huge dick or blast them off with ballistic missiles coming from my ear. GEEZ that would be cool. Though my mom would be against it... Dammit... Well seems like I have to say no.

"No".

In this day and age.. catagorically NO!

Have you ever heard of the Brainport ? a device which enhances human abilities of sense allowing the blind to see, and deaf to hear. It also has of course.. many military applications allowing Navy seals to "feel" their way through the darkness of the ocean... and marines "see" in the pitch of night as their eyes view the world in infra red.. without goggles.

Cybornetics are obsloete before they have even goten here.. I can acheive super human sense without ever having to transplat any organs or body parts. Besides, think of the endless maintence you would have to conduct.. and the on going expense of those maintence programs. Cybornetics are nothing more then a headache. I prefer advanced human with the brainport. My body, only better!

Yeah. I would. Or at the very least, I would upload myself to the internet.

Hang on a minute... if you could upload yourself to the internet matrix-style, if others could too, if there was no/little security then someone could steal your body. Or maybe a giant body-swapping company would come about. Scary stuff, this...

Hmm...

I'm too much of a philosophical worrier to be at all happy of transferring my mind into a metallic shell - I'd never stop wondering if I'm really me.

However... a few choice upgrades to by current body wouldn't hurt.

Who in the name of goodness would want to entrust their very lives to Windows? I know that if I went into a hospital and found out all the life-support machines etc were running "Windows Lifesaver - Professional Edition", I'd be out of there so fast you wouldn't see me coming...

Would I become a cyborg? Probably. Although I would want to wait until this body had run most of its course, first. In case I miss out.
